Corporate Counsel Lead
Senior Artificial Intelligence Legal Counsel

About the Role
FIS is a global leader in financial technology, enabling innovation in payments, banking, and investment services. With 200+ attorneys and paraprofessionals in the Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs (LCCA) group, we empower collaboration across global teams to deliver pragmatic legal support for business objectives. This role falls under the FIS Regulatory Legal team, a global function providing strategic legal direction on financial services regulations, AI, financial crime risk, and more.
About the Team
The FIS Regulatory Legal team serves as a trusted advisor to FIS’ Chief Regulatory Counsel, delivering expert guidance on emerging financial services laws, policies, and engagements with regulators. We ensure compliance while enabling innovation, balancing day-to-day advisory work with high-impact projects for global business partners.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead AI Regulatory Strategy – Serve as the global subject matter expert (SME) on AI regulations, partnering with LCCA teams, Risk, Technology, AI governance, and Business teams.
- Compliance Liaison – Guide the business through evolving AI laws (e.g., EU AI Act, U.S. state regulations) to implement scalable, compliance-driven AI policies.
- Policy Advocacy – Collaborate with Public Policy to shape AI regulatory positions and engage with lawmakers on stakeholder concerns.
- Development & Governance – Advise on AI transparency, governance frameworks, and trust-related standards.
- Regulator Engagement – Respond to regulatory inquiries (notices, exams, letters) and maintain compliance across AI initiatives.
- Contract Support – Partner with Business, Data Privacy & IP Legal to negotiate AI-related terms in client contracts.
- Risk Assessment – Assess gaps in AI policies against global regulations and industry best practices.
- Training & Awareness – Educate colleagues on AI compliance risks and provide legal expertise for the People Office (TPO)’s AI training programs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with Cybersecurity and Data Privacy on high-impact AI-related cyber risks.
- External Counsel Management – Oversee external legal partnerships, ensuring timely and cost-effective governance.

What You Will Need
- Qualifications – J.D. with active bar admission in a U.S. state, UK, or EU or equivalent qualification.
- Experience – 8–12+ years of post-qualification experience in AI, financial services, IP, or data privacy law, with deep expertise in EU AI Act regulation, U.S. state AI laws.
- Skills –
- Exceptional research, analysis, writing, and communication—essential for drafting legal advice.
- Ability to navigate multi-faceted compliance issues and provide actionable advice to business stakeholders.
- Proven track record in lawyering for large, global organizations in varied sectors.
- Strong project management—balancing deadlines, client needs, and cross-functional dependencies.
- Proactive self-starter with multitasking ability; confident delivery at senior levels.
