About The Team

The FIS Legal team consists of 200+ attorneys and paraprofessionals across the Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs (LCCA) group. As advisors and strategic partners to our globally distributed businesses, we collaborate both within LCCA and with direct business stakeholders to solve complex issues efficiently and pragmatically. Our focus is on strategic enablement and support, delivering sound legal and compliance guidance that helps our leaders turn objectives into real-world success.

This role is based in the FIS Regulatory Legal team—a global powerhouse that specialises in:

  • Expert legal advice on financial services and technology laws, regulatory policy, and emerging rules (e.g., sustainability, competition).
  • Partnerships with regulators, compliance, and financial crime risk management.
  • Ensuring FIS’ products and services roll out compliant, legally sound, and strategically aligned—every time.

What You Will Be Doing

A high-impact opportunity awaits. Reporting directly to FIS’ Chief Regulatory Counsel, your role as Senior Legal Counsel (AI & Regulatory) will include:

  • Acting as subject-matter expert (SME) for AI legal and regulatory matters, partnering internally with:
    • Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs (LCCA) specialists
    • Risk, Technology, The People Office (TPO), and Commercial Office stakeholders
  • Guiding FIS’ global AI adoption by analysing evolving laws and regulations, ensuring our control environment remains scale-able, innovative, and compliant.
  • Serving as an AI regulatory policy thought leader, advising on global legislative trends alongside Public Policy.
  • Leading the development of:
    • Sustainable AI governance frameworks
    • Trusted AI-related policies and compliance artifacts
  • Advising on regulatory engagements, including responses to notice, inquiry, exam, and agency correspondence pertaining to AI.
  • Driving AI compliance assessments against:
    • Global AI laws (e.g., EU AI Act)
    • US state-level AI regulations
    • Industry best practices and standards
  • Collaborating with:
    • Data Privacy & IP Legal on AI terms in client and vendor contracts
    • Marketing & Communications on AI-related publications, ensuring legal alignment
  • Supporting regulatory risk evaluation for new AI products and partnerships, proposing actionable mitigation strategies.
  • Delivering training and compliance guidance to colleagues, including AI-specific awareness programs co-developed with The People Office (TPO).
  • Partnering with Cybersecurity & Data Privacy to address emerging issues at the AI-cybersecurity intersection.

External Counsel Oversight:

  • Directing and managing outside legal counsel when needed, ensuring:
    • Delivery of expert, timely, and high-quality advice
    • Cost-effectiveness and enterprise-wide consistency.

What You Will Need

Minimum Qualifications

  • JD (or equivalent qualification) with active state bar membership (US) or practice rights in the UK/EU.
  • 8–12 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a relevant area, including any of the following:
    • AI regulation, policy, and emerging tech compliance
    • Financial services regulation (e.g., supervisory exams, cross-border compliance)
    • Intellectual Property & Data Privacy (య్య testament to your technical and compliance expertise)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deep industry-specific knowledge: AI, financial services, trade secrets, and data hygiene.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including:
    • Drafting actionable legal guidance and advising stakeholders on complex regulatory questions.
    • Assessing risk multidisciplinary scenarios (technical, financial, and legal).
  • Expert presentational and negotiation abilities, able to engage at senior levels across FIS.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to:
    • Prioritise workloads under pressure
    • Work cross-functionally in a dynamic organisation
    • Manage high-visibility projects from inception to delivery

Preferred Experience

  • Cyber law expertise, or deep understanding of AI cybersecurity risks.
  • Familiarity with framing AI governance risk management plans, including the:
    • NIST AI Risk Management Framework
    • ISO/IEC TR 45001 Compliance Framework
    • Other industry-leading risk frameworks
