A leading European passenger transport business is looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join its Group Legal team on a 12-month fixed-term contract (start date end of August/September). This is a broad growth-focused role supporting strategic initiatives across the UK and Europe, including M&A activity, major tender opportunities, commercial contracts, and corporate acquisitions.

The role

  • Support corporate transactions, acquisitions, and business development activity.
  • Review and advise on tender documentation, concession agreements, and associated contracts.
  • Assess legal and commercial risk and recommend practical solutions.
  • Provide day-to-day legal guidance to stakeholders across the business.
  • Work closely with Commercial, Finance, Tax, Treasury, and external legal advisers.
  • Contribute to wider Group Legal initiatives and governance projects.

The ideal candidate

  • Qualified lawyer, upwards of 3 to 5 years PQE.
  • Corporate, commercial, and/or M&A experience from private practice or in-house.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Commercial, pragmatic, and comfortable managing competing priorities.
  • Procurement or tendering experience would be useful, but is not essential.
