Corporate Tax Lawyer (6 Month Assignment). International Law Firm. 8+ PQE

We are currently working with a highly regarded international law firm that is looking to engage an experienced Corporate Tax Lawyer for an initial 6-month assignment. The role is due to start ASAP and the firm is open to engaging candidates on either a fixed-term contract or daily rate basis, depending on individual preference and circumstances.

This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with a leading partner and support a busy and highly respected tax practice. The successful individual will play a key role in managing transaction flow and providing senior-level support across a broad range of tax matters, enabling the partner to focus on strategic client development and practice growth.

The practice advises a diverse client base ranging from founders, entrepreneurs, family offices and high-net-worth individuals through to private equity funds, charities, institutional investors and large corporates. The breadth of the team's work is a genuine differentiator, with lawyers regularly collaborating across corporate, private client, real estate, employment, finance, charities and litigation practices.

The team advises on a broad range of UK corporate tax matters and works closely with colleagues across the wider firm. As a result, the successful lawyer can expect exposure to a varied mix of transactional, advisory and structuring work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The practice regularly advises on matters including:

  • Corporate tax aspects of M&A transactions and corporate restructurings
  • VAT, stamp taxes and withholding taxes
  • Employment tax, management incentive arrangements and tax-efficient remuneration structures
  • IR35 and off-payroll working rules
  • Fund structuring matters, including private equity and bespoke investment structures
  • Tax considerations arising from growth company investments and fundraising activity
  • Charity and not-for-profit tax matters
  • Technical advisory work, including tax opinions, structuring advice and implementation projects

Given the breadth of the practice, candidates are not expected to have experience across all of the above areas. Rather, the team is keen to speak with experienced corporate tax lawyers who can bring strong technical expertise in some of these disciplines and confidently support a busy and varied workload.

The successful individual will be a capable and commercially minded experienced lawyer who is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of matters and acting as a trusted extension of the partner's practice.

The firm operates a flexible hybrid working model and is open to discussing office attendance requirements around the successful candidate's preferences. Whilst some in-person attendance may occasionally be beneficial for client and team meetings, flexibility will be afforded where possible.

Candidates are likely to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales
  • Significant post-qualification experience (ideally 8+ PQE) advising on corporate tax matters, likely gained within a leading law firm environment
  • The ability to work autonomously and provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to engage directly with partners and clients
  • Availability to commence a new assignment at short notice or within a reasonable timeframe

This represents an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected international law firm and work alongside a leading tax practitioner on a broad and intellectually stimulating mix of matters.
