Intermediate MEP Cost Manager – Real Estate (Cambridge)
Company Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Intermediate MEP Cost Manager to join our busy Real Estate team in Cambridge. You will play a key role in supporting a longstanding, high-profile account.
Job Description
- Lead on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) deliverables within larger projects or manage direct MEP commissions, such as asset upgrade works.
- Establish early budgets, provide early estimating, and develop cost plans.
- Manage design teams to budget, oversee tendering and procurement (single- and two-stage), and deliver post-contract reporting.
- Mentor Assistant Cost Managers and Cost Managers within the MEP team.
- Collaborate with contractors and MEP supply chains, ensuring robust and effective relationships.
- Support the development of MEP digital systems and tools, and promote best practices within the business and wider MEP community.
Qualifications
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality cost management/quantity surveying services across the full project lifecycle.
- Professionally qualified (RICS or similar) or working towards professional accreditation.
- Degree or HNC-level qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Ability to mine and negotiate initial tender returns and provide recommendations.
- Experience running change control processes, including cost negotiations.
- Reviewing payment applications and preparing recommendations.
- Managing final account reconciliations.
- Reviewing and validating cost build-ups and rate analysis.
- Capability to undertake basic counts using Cost X (or equivalent tool).
- Proactive in engaging with contractors and clients as required.
- Ability to perform benchmarking using available data.
- Updating and tracking the Client Workbook, which records all submitted change orders.
- Willingness to take on detailed, process-driven tasks to support the client’s objectives.
