Cost Planner
Cost Controller – Project Controls Team (Permanent)
Job Summary
The Cost Controller is a key member of the Project Controls team, responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of a construction project to ensure costs are controlled and budgets are adhered to. This role requires expertise in construction processes, financial management, and Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Budget Development and Management:
- Collaborate with multiple disciplines to establish, monitor, and update project budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Cost and Quantity Tracking and Reporting:
- Track actual quantities and costs against forecasts and budgets.
- Identify variances, analyse findings, and report to stakeholders.
- Earned Value Management (EVM):
- Implement and maintain an EVM system to measure project performance, integrating cost, schedule, and scope for accurate project health assessments.
- Forecasting:
- Prepare regular cost and quantity forecasts, highlight potential overruns, and recommend corrective actions.
- Change Management:
- Review, analyse, and process change orders to capture cost impacts and make budget adjustments.
- Financial Reporting:
- Produce detailed financial reports, including cash flow projections and cost-to-complete analyses, for senior management and client reporting.
- Risk Management:
- Identify cost-related risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Technical Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in cost control on large construction projects (£100m+).
- Expert knowledge of Earned Value Management, risk management, and cost control application in construction.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., Primavera, SAP).
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly and concisely.
- Sharpen attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, adapting under pressure and managing shifting priorities autonomously.
Qualifications, Certifications & Experience
- Recent experience in relevant construction project environments.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills for collaborative workplaces.
- Proven ability to innovate for value and efficiency.
- Commitment to transparency and integration in reporting.
- Demonstrated accuracy and adaptability in fast-paced, high-volume environments.
