Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer – Hybrid Role
About the Role
This is a full-time permanent hybrid role, based in office with flexibility to work remotely for 2 days per week. The successful candidate will handle a variety of responsibilities:
- Drafting Bills of Costs
- Drafting Points of Dispute
- Drafting Points of Reply
- Drafting Part 8 Proceedings / Interim Applications
- Assessing and negotiating cost claims
- Preparing Precedent H Budgets
- Attending CCMCs (Costs Monitoring Conferences)
- Advising clients
The role involves working collaboratively with clients and team members to ensure accurate cost recovery and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Draft and review complex legal documentation under tight deadlines
- Conduct preliminary groundwork to prepare witness statements
- Achieve accurate and consistent completion of all calculations
- Ensure accurate finalisation and delivery of paperwork
- Apply high level of discretion and confidentiality when advising parties in cost litigation matters
- Serve as a first point of contact for all matters arising from cost budgeting and the conduct of proceedings

Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer
- Strong knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules and costs case law
- Experience across personal injury, clinical negligence, industrial disease, housing disrepair, and commercial litigation
- Sharp attention to detail and robust organisation skills
- Ability to work independently whilst managing your own caseload
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Business acumen to perform rigorous cost budgeting negotiations
- Proven analytical skills and the drive to progress
