Location: Wilmslow and Stoke on Trent

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week (Term Time Only) Salary: £23.87–£27.39 p/hr (£49,649.60–£56,971.20 per annum, pro rata) Start Date: Ideally April 2026

About the Role

Aurora – Supporting Children & Young People is seeking a skilled and compassionate Counselling Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist to join their expanding school-based clinical team. This is a meaningful opportunity to support the emotional well-being of children and young people, delivering high-quality therapeutic interventions within a nurturing school environment across Aurora Hanley and Aurora Summerfield.


Key Responsibilities

You will play a central role in:

  • Providing individual and group therapeutic interventions for children and young people, addressing issues such as:
    • Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
    • High anxiety
    • Emotional regulation challenges
    • Trauma
  • Delivering sessions on-site in dedicated spaces within schools, with occasional remote support.
  • Contributing to a whole-school approach to wellbeing, including:
    • Workshops
    • Parent groups
    • Mental health initiatives
  • Developing and facilitating group therapy programmes.
  • Upholding safeguarding responsibilities, ethical guidelines, and professional standards.

Key Duties:

  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, adapting approaches to meet individual needs (individual or group settings).
  • Conduct regular assessment and progress reviews, using measurement tools to monitor student wellbeing.
  • Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring timely sessions and organised appointments.
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and compliant clinical records.
  • Liaise with clients, line managers, and safeguarding teams regarding appointments and concerns.
  • Conduct risk assessments and escalate escalate concerning matters.
  • Plan and deliver training sessions (staff, parents, and student wellbeing programmes).
  • Oversee the ‘Mind works’ student sessions.
  • Attend multiagency meetings (clinical and TAC meetings).
  • Support in supervising Assistant Psychologists (where applicable).
  • Collaborate with external professionals (CAMHS, Educational Psychologists).
  • Engage with parents, delivering workshops and sessions.
  • Write clinical reports and recommendations.

Requirements

About You:

Successful applicants will:

  • Have experience in delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to children and young people.
  • Be able to manage a varied caseload independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills for sensitive discussions with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Commit to safeguarding, ethical practice, and inclusive support.
  • Contribute to a positive, whole-school mental health approach.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, with experience working with young people.
  • HCPC and BPS registration.
  • STANDARD in safeguarding and adherence to HCPC and BPS ethical guidelines.
  • At least one year’s post-qualifying experience in paediatric psychological practice.
  • Fluency in at least two therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, Play Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy).
  • Confidence in short-term and group therapy models.
  • Strong record-keeping, reporting, and IT proficiency.
  • Ability to make sound clinical judgements and work effectively in a school environment.
  • Resilience, reflective practice, reliability, and commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with young people, parents, and colleagues. -Skills to work inclusively with diverse backgrounds and children with SEND.
