At a glance

The Country HR Director is positioned in the Human Resources (HR) department and has a hierarchical reporting line to the Country Executive UK and a functional reporting line to HR Director Wealth Management. As Country HR Director you are a full member of the UK leadership team and permanent guest to our local executive committee. You support the Country Executive and challenge him in his role as leader and the fulfilment of the people ambitions.

Your job

As Country HR Director you translate the ABN AMRO strategy into an HR strategy. Including an internal communication strategy. You give direction to the strategic HR themes and issues that are tackled and implemented in collaboration with the local HR team and Head Office. Furthermore, you play an active role in the strategic dialogues in MT and within HR itself. Together with head office and the local HR team you define and implement the HR strategy. Furthermore, you act as team coach for the UK leadership team by addressing dynamics and promoting and creating cohesion. You have vision on leadership (potential) and you combine your vision with your observations to create appropriate interventions. You establish a fitting culture and make sure it is carried out.

The Country HR Director manages the local HR department, consisting of 11 people. The team is responsible for the provision of a responsive, business aligned HR strategy and implementation to ABN AMRO employees and businesses. Co-ordinating the structure of the team and division of workload to ensure that the team functions efficiently, adequate controls are in place and procedures are followed.

HR is responsible for the execution of high-quality HR products, services and processes with predictable quality that contribute to the realization of the bank’s strategy and the associated People Ambitions:

  • Connecting culture to identity and people experience
  • Re-imagine leadership
  • Identify talents early and stretch their development path
  • Linking performance to recognition
  • Build up- and reskilling of capabilities

The goal is to come to HR solutions that optimally meet the needs of the business in the short and long term. The department serves both the interests of the business in the Netherlands and internationally, while keeping an eye on the correct application of sustainability, conduct and compliance aspects.

In your role as Country Manager HR UK you are responsible for

  • Translating ABN AMRO’s and Global HR strategy into a clear UK HR strategy, including communication that engages employees and supports the bank’s transformation.
  • Delivering high-quality strategic HR advice, products and services that support the UK branches and their business ambitions.
  • Ensuring the people agenda is embedded in leadership discussions and decisions, supported by relevant HR data and fact-based insights.
  • Leading and developing the local HR team, enabling effective execution of the HR strategy and strong team performance.
  • Coaching the UK leadership team and shaping a cohesive, effective culture through targeted interventions

Your profile

  • Degree-level education or equivalent, with senior HR leadership experience.
  • Experience in international, multinational and matrix environments; financial services experience is a plus.
  • Strong employee relations experience, including social dialogue and collective agreements; UK legislation knowledge is beneficial.
  • Able to balance local needs with global consistency across business lines, geographies and cultures.
  • Proven ability to lead organisational transformation, change and long-term workforce planning.
  • Broad HR expertise across organisation design, culture, leadership, talent, reward, workforce management, learning and people development.
  • Strong understanding of HR data, budgeting and performance processes.
  • Credible and pragmatic communicator who can challenge, influence and advise senior stakeholders with clarity and conviction.
