Course Assistant
Course Assistant – Bettys Cookery School (Part-Time)
Our Cookery School, located on Hookstone Chase, Harrogate, offers hands-on culinary experiences through courses, demonstrations, and healthy nutrition education—both as an interactive learning space and a community venue.
A part-time opportunity (16 hours over two days, primarily Fridays and Saturdays) has arisen! We’re seeking a dedicated Course Assistant to ensure the smooth delivery of all Bettys Cookery School sessions, from ingredient prep to refreshments and course support. Your role is key in delivering exceptional customer experiences, including independently cooking high-quality lunches for delegates, ensuring areas and materials are fully prepared, and supporting tutors as needed.

About the Role
- Primary Focus: Assist in the seamless preparation, cooking, and service for Bettys Cookery School courses.
- Key Tasks:
- Independently cook and serve high-quality hot lunches to delegates.
- Coordinate and maintain ingredients, refreshments, service areas, and course materials to tight timelines.
- Provide practical support to tutors and delegates as required to facilitate a seamless learning experience.
- Familiarize yourself and enforce food safety, health and safety standards and practice.
- Core Expectations:
- Cookery Knowledge: Experience in a catering or kitchen environment, confident in scaling recipes using consistent quality methods.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene protocols, and best practice—with a commitment to upholding Bettys’ standards.
- Customer Service Excellence: Customer-focused mindset, with the ability to recognize individual needs, anticipate expectations, and resolve any queries professionally.
- Polyvalency & Multi-tasking: Manage plates, deadlines and organizational responsibilities alongside meticulous attention to detail.
- Desirable: Skills in baking, patisserie, refrigeration techniques or meat/fish preparation.

About You
- Prerequisite Experience: Proven ability in homogeneous food production and service (team environments or solo working).
- Attention to Detail: Methodical adherence to process, strong stock management skills, and the capacity to work under pressure with changing deadlines.
- Template Systems: Proven ability to follow standard operating procedures when performing make-ready tasks for each course session.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to coordinate effectively with Course Assistants and Tutors while maintaining team cohesion within an evolving annexe environment.
