Cover Supervisor

Cover Supervisor – Tile Cross Academy (part of Washwood Heath MAT)

We’re seeking a committed, hard-working, and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team of Cover Supervisors in a fast-paced, ever-changing working environment. If you already have experience in Secondary School Cover Supervision or are looking for a new challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

About the Role

You will bring:

  • Enthusiasm, assertiveness, and strong behaviour management skills to ensure a constructive classroom environment.
  • Confidence in inspiring and encouraging students, while maintaining discipline.
  • Proficiency with ICT and GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above in Maths and English.
  • Experience supervising KS3 & KS4 students during short-term absences and carrying out pre-prepared work.
  • An ability to liaise with teaching staff, organise work, and support Faculties and pastoral teams, including acting as a Form Tutor where required.

You will be handling covered classes, ensuring a positive learning experience, and working closely with Pastoral Teams.


Responsibilities

  • Supervising students during short-term staff absences.
  • Preparing and delivering designated lesson plans for KS3 & KS4.
  • Ensuring a structured learning environment, including supporting attendance and attendance checks.
  • Acting as a Form Tutor or pastoral team member as required.
  • Assessing and returning completed classwork.
  • Working collaboratively with departments and senior staff.
  • Ensuring a high standard of behaviour management, creating an approachable yet supportive atmosphere.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor (secondary school context preferred).
  • Strong understanding and ability to apply established lesson structures.
  • Proficiency in ICT and key teaching software (Zoom Teach, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, etc.).
  • Confident, assertive communicator—able to engage students effectively.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (required for all applicants).
  • British Sign Language (BSL) awareness (where applicable).
  • Absolute fluency in spoken and written English (essential for compliance with UK immigration law).
