Cover Supervisor - Band G SCP 11 (£21,606–£23,437)

Full-Time | Permanent (32.5 hrs/week - Term Time + TT days) Starting: September 2026


About the Role

Are you passionate about education and seeking hands-on classroom experience without the pressure of full teaching commitments? The Avon Valley School & Performing Arts College is looking for a dedicated, adaptable Cover Supervisor to support learning across diverse subjects and year groups.

This role is ideal for:

You will deliver engaging pre-set lessons, manage behaviour, and contribute to a supportive, inclusive learning environment—while gaining invaluable experience for a future in teaching.


Key Responsibilities

As a Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Lead in the Classroom:
    • Deliver engaging, pre-set lessons across varying subjects and year groups (KS3–KS4)
    • Ensure consistent learning outcomes regardless of teacher absence
  • Support Student Progress:
    • Guide students in accessing work, answering questions, and boosting engagement
    • Maintain positive, respectful learning environments in line with school policies
  • Manage Classrooms Effectively:
    • Enforce high expectations for behaviour and conduct
    • Paired securely and safely with students at all times
  • Collaborate as Part of the Team:
    • Work closely with Cover Manager and teaching staff to execute lesson plans
    • Provide concise, constructive feedback on student progress and behaviour
  • Teacher-Facing Duties:
    • Register tutor groups
    • Supervise break/lunchtime activities
    • Assist in isolation or removal rooms when required

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Organisational skills: Thrives in a fast-paced environment with strong time management
  • Communication & Relationships:
    • Builds rapport with students/staff while maintaining professionalism
    • Comfortable in a role model capacity
  • Flexibility & Vilacity:
    • Committed to delivering uninterrupted learning when teachers are absent
    • Wears appropriate smart-casual uniform for teaching
  • Safeguarding Awareness:
    • Demonstrates deep understanding of safeguarding principles
    • Committed to the welfare of children and young people

Desirable (Not Mandatory)

  • Education/Teaching Experience:
    • Prior role as a HLTA, Unqualified Teacher, or Cover Supervisor
  • DBS Check: Volunteer roles in schools may show suitability for an Enhanced DBS

Note: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not required.
