Cover Supervisor

We are looking to appoint a motivated and inspirational colleague with a passion for transforming the life chances of young people as a Cover Supervisor, working 37hrs per week, term-time only. Possibly considering a future career in teaching, you will be required to supervise and support students who are engaged in learning activities during the short-term or unforeseen absence of their usual teacher. In addition, our Cover Supervisor team are employed to administer and supervise daily centralised detentions.

You will be based primarily at Twynham School but are likely to work regularly across both schools.

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Join our high performing and progressive organisation
  • Take sole responsibility for classes of students on a short-term basis
  • Work with expert teachers to provide exceptional short-term cover for absent staff
  • Work within a supportive team to supervise and administer centralised detentions
  • To take sole charge of a group or class of students in the short term or unforeseen absence of their usual teacher
  • Register attendance in accordance with school policy
  • Respond to any questions from students about process and procedures and the work that they are engaged in. Support student use of associated resources
  • Manage the behaviour of students whilst they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive learning environment.
  • Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies or procedures
  • Collect completed work and resources after the lesson and returning it to an appropriate teacher with comments on any learning issues arising and progress made
  • Report back as appropriate using the school’s agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of students during the lesson(s) and any issues arising
  • Apply a degree of originality and creativity to the delivery of learning activities. This would include supporting and carrying out straightforward assessments in the classroom, such as marking
  • Use the school MIS (Management Information System) to register students and inform relevant colleagues of attendance, behaviour and rewards
  • Supervise students from years 7-11 in a centralised detention room from 3.15-4.15pm Monday-Friday
  • Manage the behaviour of students in the detention room and facilitate the completion of specific tasks
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies

Who we are looking for

We Would Love To Hear From You If You

  • Are passionate about working with young people
  • Have a minimum of 5 A*-C GCSE qualifications (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics
  • Are likely to want to pursue a career in education, possibly as a teacher
  • Are a high-energy and passionate individual with a clear moral purpose which is driven by a desire to improve the life chances of young people
  • Will embrace our highly supportive, professional approach to school
  • Have a minimum of 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English (or equivalent) and A-level or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
  • Have very good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Have experience of general clerical/ administrative work
  • Have some training in relevant strategies in appropriate curriculum or learning area
  • Have the ability to travel independently between Twynham School and The Grange School during the working day
  • Aspire to have a career working with children (potentially in teaching)
  • Are a high-energy and passionate individual with a clear moral purpose which is driven by a desire to improve the life chances of young people
  • Have the ability to inspire and relate well to the whole community
  • Are an emotionally intelligent and resilient colleague who can adapt to a range of situations and communicate with various stakeholders including students, parents and other colleagues and professionals
  • Are a team player who is comfortable in both providing and responding to professional challenge
  • Have commitment to and evidence of professional development of both yourself and others
  • Have commitment to engaging with evidence and research to inform practice
  • Are outgoing and enthusiastic with a positive “can-do” attitude and a solution-focused approach
  • Have a good sense of humour
  • Have experience of working in an education setting
  • Have experience of working with relevant age groups within a learning environment
  • Have experience of working with children with additional needs
  • Possess a Degree-level qualification
