Build a brilliant future with Hiscox

About Hiscox

As an international specialist insurer we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things. We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people.

Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

You can follow Hiscox on LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Instagram (@HiscoxInsurance)

The role

Our Crisis Management Division forms part of the London Market operation at Hiscox and consists of an experienced underwriting team who focus on Terrorism, Kidnap & Ransom, A&H, Recall and now Credit and Political Risk.

As a high performing team, we are always looking to challenge ourselves to deliver exceptional underwriting performance and quality. Our main growth opportunity is in Credit and Political Risks, where we aim to build a scalable, market-leading class that is central to the Hiscox offering.

To support this expansion, we are looking for another experienced Credit and Political Risks Underwriter to join the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
