About the Role
Sutton College is seeking a passionate and experienced Creative Craft (Sewing) Tutor to deliver NCFE qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. The successful candidate will inspire learners with a hands-on approach, fostering practical skills, confidence, and creativity in sewing and craft.
The role includes teaching, delivering quality-assured sessions, and contributing to the college’s strategic goals—particularly targeting Adult Skills Fund priority groups. You will help learners achieve personal and professional growth, enabling them to progress in education, employment, or further creative development.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Ensure a safe, organised, and motivational learning environment while adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Create a positive, engaging atmosphere to support skill development and learner confidence.
- Use diverse teaching methods, such as interactive workshops, demonstrations, and tailored feedback, to suit all ability levels.
- Assess learner progress effectively, providing constructive feedback to aid development.
- Provide person-centred support, helping learners to set and meet their goals whether academic, personal, or employability-focused.
- Collaborate with staff to develop and refine the curriculum, ensuring alignment with learner and employer needs.
On-site delivery is mandatory throughout the role. You will also actively contribute to curriculum enhancement, personalised employer partnerships, and strategies to improve learner outcomes.

What We Look For
We are particularly interested in applicants who:
- Have a genuine passion for teaching in Further Education and encouraging learners irrespective of background.
- Possess substantial subject expertise and practical industry experience in sewing or textiles, or equivalent.
- Can motivate and empower learners, helping them explore their potential in and beyond the classroom.
- Are able to tailor teaching approaches to suit diverse learning needs and adapt easily to changing demands.
- Bring creativity and enthusiasm to the role, engaging learners meaningfully in practical craft-based learning.
Qualifications Required:
- Teaching experience in Adult or Further Education, preferably in a Post-16 setting (college, training provider, etc.).
- Experience teaching entry-level through to Level 2 learners with a range of skill levels.
- An understanding of quality assurance and improvement in education, with capability in curriculum development.
Professional Experience & Documentation:

- A suitable teaching qualification for Post-16 (e.g. DET (Diploma in Education and Training) / TEACHING ASSISTANCE PORTFOLIO, Level 4 Certificate in Education), or a commitment to unlocking or upskilling in the first year of employment.
- A minimum of a:
- Level 4 qualification (e.g. HND, degree) in a relevant craft or related creative subject; OR
- Three years’ substantial industry experience within sewing or similar craft disciplines at Level 3 or above.
- A Level 2 qualification (GCSE equivalent or higher) in English and Mathematics.
