Credit Control Team Lead

Location: United Kingdom

Reports To: Finance Operations Manager

Direct Reports: Credit Control Team

Executive Overview

An industry-leading Tech SAAS organization is seeking a proactive and results-driven Credit Control Team Lead to oversee its debt collection processes, optimize cash flow, and lead a dedicated credit control team. This key leadership position is responsible for setting operational collection targets, managing aged debt, driving down Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), and elevating debtor performance across the business. Acting as an escalation point and strategic process owner, the successful candidate will blend operational excellence with strong leadership and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Stakeholder Management

  • Oversee the complete end-to-end credit control lifecycle, including customer engagement, dispute resolution, reconciliations, refunds, and precise cash allocation.
  • Manage direct debit and credit card collection workflows, ensuring strict data integrity.
  • Serve as the senior point of escalation for complex disputes, high-risk accounts, and late payments.
  • Manage relationships with external debt collection agencies and authorize accounts progressing to formal legal action.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal departments to resolve queries efficiently and protect customer relationships.

Team Leadership & Coaching

  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the credit control team through regular 1-to-1s, structured performance reviews, and continuous training.
  • Drive team productivity and foster a high-performance culture aligned with key business targets.
  • Evaluate and champion return-on-investment (ROI) proposals for new team initiatives and productivity tools.

Reporting, Governance & Process Optimization

  • Track, analyze, and forecast team KPIs, including DSO, aged debt profiles, ticket throughput, and cash collections.
  • Deliver comprehensive reports and bad debt analyses to senior management to highlight trends and mitigate financial risk.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to refine credit control frameworks, reduce collection friction, and automate reporting processes.
  • Ensure strict adherence to governance standards and support both internal and external audit requirements.

Candidate Profile

Background & Technical Requirements

  • Proven Track Record: At least 2+ years of experience in a Credit Control leadership or supervisory role.
  • Data & Excel Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities, with demonstrated expertise in dashboard creation and handling large data volumes.
  • System Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of accounting platforms, CRM systems, and Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Financial Foundations: Solid understanding of core bookkeeping principles and bad debt management.
  • Process Enhancement: Proven ability to identify process bottlenecks and implement scalable workflow improvements.

Desirable Criteria

  • Hands-on experience using NetSuite.
  • Currently studying towards or holding a relevant professional credit management or accounting qualification.
