Salary: £26,707 – £31,236 per annum (Grade 5)
Contract Type: Full-time (1FTE), Open-ended
Reward & Benefits: 28 days annual leave + 9 building closed days for full-time staff
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Credit Controller to join our Accounts Receivable Team. The role involves managing the collection of revenue due to the University from diverse sources, ensuring all activities comply with financial regulations and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in credit control, cash collection, or accounts receivable
- Business-to-business (B2B) collections experience in a fast-paced financial environment
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, data analysis)
- Strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder management abilities
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach
The role operates on a hybrid basis (minimum 3 on-site days per week at our Edinburgh campus).
Key Responsibilities
- Managing credit control, including:
- Tracking University debtor ledgers
- Issuing payment reminders, resolving disputes, and negotiating arrangements
- Liaising with internal/external stakeholders to drive collections and invoicing

Student debt management:
- Contacting students with overdue balances
- Arranging immediate payments for outstanding tuition fees

Supporting collections teams, including:
- Collaborating with Research Grants Team on funding body invoicing
- Investing in operational efficiency through process improvements

Administrative duties:
- Cash matching, reconciliation, and account record maintenance
- Generating ad-hoc reports and investigations

Ensuring compliance with University financial regulations
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in credit control, accounts receivable, or cash collection
- B2B collection experience (preferably within a large organisation)
- Proficiency in financial systems and Excel (advanced functions required)
- Exceptional communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage priorities under deadlines and work independently/together
- A customer-focused, problem-solving mindset

Desirable (But Valued)
- Experience in higher education/public sector environments
- Tuition fee collection or student debt management background
- Grants/tuition funding invoicing experience
- Accounting or credit management qualifications (or willingness to pursue)
