Litigation Solicitor

Canford Law is seeking an experienced Litigation Solicitor to join our growing Credit Hire team in our Glasgow office.

In this role, you will manage your own caseload of Credit Hire and Road Traffic Accident (RTA) matters from pre-litigation through the litigation process in the Scottish courts. You will support and guide clients to achieve successful outcomes through negotiation or court proceedings where necessary.

You will work with a high level of autonomy while benefiting from a collaborative and supportive team environment and our purpose-built case management system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a personal caseload of Credit Hire / RTA litigation matters with a high level of autonomy.
  • Conduct pre-litigation case preparation and progress matters through the appropriate Scottish court procedure where required.
  • Prepare and issue proceedings in the Sheriff Court, including Simple Procedure and Ordinary Cause actions where appropriate.
  • Review prospects of success on an ongoing basis and provide clear, professional advice and regular updates to clients throughout their claim.
  • Gather and review evidence, prepare pleadings, manage disclosure, and draft witness statements and productions.
  • Prepare court bundles and draft instructions to Counsel where required.
  • Negotiate settlements and manage instructions to Counsel when appropriate.
  • Use the firm’s case management system to record activity, manage deadlines and ensure timely progression of files.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant court rules, regulatory requirements and firm procedures.
  • Work with colleagues across departments to proactively drive case outcomes and deliver excellent client care.
  • Identify issues and propose pragmatic, cost-effective solutions for clients and the business.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience handling Credit Hire, RTA or personal injury litigation matters.
  • Experience managing files through the Scottish civil court process would be highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload independently.
  • Excellent client care skills with a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, including diary and deadline management.
  • Confident user of case management systems and standard office software.
  • A strong desire to succeed and thrive in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Qualified Solicitor (Scotland)
  • Right to work in the UK.
