📍 Location: London or Remote (UK) 💰 Salary: £79,000 - £93,000 + Performance-based incentives + Flexible Benefits
About the Team
Our Borrowing team is expanding rapidly, with new initiatives both in existing products and emerging plans. With growth comes an increased need for oversight, and we’re seeking a Credit Model Validation Manager to join our Second Line of Defence. Our Credit Model Validation team ensures independent reviews and challenges the first line’s credit model development to drive safe and responsible growth, ensuring our models deliver positive outcomes for customers.
With oversight of Monzo’s diverse credit models, including strategic decisioning systems, you’ll focus primarily on customer-level underwriting, scoring, and unit economics, ensuring our models are fair, effective, and robust.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading independent data-driven validation to assess model fitness, explainability, real-world performance, and compliance with risk thresholds.
- Overseeing statistical analysis, model performance reports, and challenger model testing to validate assumptions.
- Revisiting and reinforcing our Model Risk Framework, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory guidelines and industry best practices.
- Collaborating with credit strategy, first line defence, and risk teams to embed consistent validation standards across the organisation.
- Exploring AI-driven validation tools and emerging technologies.

What You Should Bring
✔ Experience in credit risk modelling, validation, or development, with a solid background in:
- Decision science and scoring models (including machine learning).
- Origination / underwriting.Percentile Differential (PD) models.
- Net Present Value (NPV) / unit economics.
✔ Strong analytical and data skills—essential: confidence in SQL and Python. A bonus: experience with data visualisation tools like Tableau or Looker.
✔ A deep understanding of real-time credit decisioning, balancing commercial trade-offs with risk mitigation.
✔ Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal—capable of simplifying complex risks for clarity and engagement.
✔ Experience building and sustaining trusted relationships across diverse stakeholders, delivering respectful, constructive challenge.
✔ Impact-driven mindset—proactively identifying ways to improve outcomes for customers and the business.
✔ Passion for monetary tech—deeply motivated by Monzo’s mission and cutting-edge work.
