Credit Risk Analyst
Credit Risk Analyst – Financial Services (Intern, Junior or Early-Career Role)
A well-established financial services organisation is seeking a Credit Risk Analyst to join its growing Finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an analytically minded junior Credit Risk professional to build experience across:
- Portfolio analysis
- Lending insights
- Management information (MI)
- IFRS 9 modelling
You will collaborate closely with Finance, Risk and Lending teams, using data to:
- Understand portfolio performance
- Identify emerging risk trends
- Support business decisions
The role offers exposure to senior stakeholders, including Credit Committee and Risk Committee, while providing practical experience in key areas such as:
- IFRS 9 (Expected Credit Loss – ECL)
- Scorecards
- Portfolio monitoring
- Credit-risk reporting
The Role
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Core Responsibilities
- Support the development and maintenance of the Group’s IFRS 9 model, covering:
- Preparing and validating ECL-related data
- Monitoring model outputs and staging movements
- Investigating provision movements
- Producing clear analysis for Finance and Risk stakeholders
- Analyse portfolio performance and customer behaviour, identifying risks or lending improvements
- Develop and refine MI and reporting tools, including:
- Credit risk dashboards
- Regular trend and performance reports
- Conduct portfolio reviews and borrower deep dives focused on:
- Arrears analysis
- Loss trends
- Emerging risks
- Help build new reports and insights to meet current business needs
- Contribute to credit scorecard development and wider lending analytics
- Use data-driven insights for:
- Lending strategy support
- Customer engagement
- Profitability analysis
- Prepare clear analysis and commentary for senior management, Credit Committee and Risk Committee
- Conduct ad-hoc investigations to address specific risks or support strategic decisions

Qualifications & Experience
An ideal candidate will typically have:
- Experience in Credit Risk Analysis, Portfolio Analysis, Finance MI, Risk Assessment or Data Analysis in financial services
- Background in roles such as:
- Credit Risk Analyst
- Portfolio Analyst
- Finance Analyst
- MI Analyst
- Risk Analyst
- Data Analyst
- Normally based in a bank, building society or regulated lender, with direct or indirect exposure to:
- Trading, lending or credit risk
You will:
- Exhibit strong analytical skills, with an affinity for data-driven work
- Demonstrate an interest in credit risk profiling and impairment methodologies
- Be motivated to build expertise in financial modelling, reporting and lending decision-making

Helpful Prior Exposure
While formal IFRS 9 experience isn’t essential, prior experience or exposure in:
- IFRS 9 / ECL framework
- Portfolio impairment & impairment allowances
- Credit scoring and risk scoring
- Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) data
- Advanced Excel (modelling, pivot tables, Power Query)
- Reporting databases such as Power BI / Tableau
Essential Skills
- Sharp attention to detail
- Ability to interpret global chemistry risk analysis
- Fast learner in a commercially-incentivised space
- Good communicator (stakeholder liaison,Financial socialisation)
- Willingness to grow rapidly in a technically demanding role
