Credit Underwriter

What We’re All About at Kroo Kroo has a big vision. To be the first bank that is both trusted and loved by its customers. We’re helping people take control of their financial future and achieve their goals, whilst making a positive impact on the planet. Here at Kroo, doing what is right is in our DNA. We act with integrity, transparency and honesty. We think big, dream big, and relentlessly pursue our goals. We like to be bold, break new ground, and we never stop learning. But most importantly, we are on this journey together. About the Team At Kroo, underwriting is more than decisioning, it’s about understanding real customer behaviour through data and continuously improving how we assess risk. We’re looking for a skilled Credit Underwriter to join our growing team. You’ll play a key role in assessing consumer credit applications, using a combination of open banking data, credit bureau insights, and affordability analysis to make sound, well-reasoned lending decisions. Alongside core underwriting, you’ll help shape and improve our underwriting processes as we scale. How you will contribute: Assess and decide consumer credit applications up to £25,000 using open banking data, credit bureau information, and application-level insights. Perform detailed income and affordability analysis, with a strong focus on transactional behaviour and customer cashflow via open banking. Evaluate credit risk and make approval or decline decisions in line with policy, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements. Identify, escalate, and document potentially fraudulent or suspicious applications, including completing KYC and fraud checks. Apply sound judgement when reviewing near-prime cases, balancing customer outcomes with risk management. Work closely with colleagues across underwriting, risk, and operations to ensure a smooth and efficient customer journey. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of underwriting processes, controls, and decisioning standards. Maintain a strong understanding of Kroo’s products and how underwriting decisions impact customer experience and portfolio performance. Stay up to date with UK regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to consumer lending. The Kroo is growing and we’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in joining us on our journey! About You While all is not essential, the following experience and qualifications are highly desirable in our ideal candidate for this position: At least 2 years’ experience in a credit underwriting or credit risk environment. Strong understanding of consumer lending, affordability assessment, and credit risk principles. Practical experience analysing open banking data for income verification and affordability is highly desirable. Experience working with near-prime lending cases. Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and apply sound judgement. High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over decision quality. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. Clear and confident communicator, able to explain decisions and reasoning to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Previous exposure to a scale-up or start-up environment is a plus. Experience in SME lending, nice to have. About Our Process: We can be flexible with the structure of our interview process if someone's circumstances or timescales require it but our general structure is: 30-minute meet and greet with our talent acquisition specialist via google hangouts. 1-hour technical interview with the hiring manager via google hangouts. 30-minute culture champion interview via google hangouts. Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
