About the Firm
Our client is an ambitious start-up boutique criminal law firm, founded by a leading King's Counsel, with a clear vision: to become one of the country's leading specialist criminal and regulatory law firms, recognised for delivering the highest standards of legal representation and client service. The firm's practice will focus predominantly on privately funded criminal defence, while also applying for its own criminal legal aid contract. This will enable it to undertake a limited number of own-client legally aided cases, reflecting its commitment to promoting access to justice whilst ensuring that every client receives the same exceptional standard of representation, irrespective of how their case is funded.
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to join a firm at the very beginning of its journey and to play a defining role in its future. Working closely alongside one of the country's leading King's Counsel, the successful candidate will enjoy a unique opportunity to develop their practice through close collaboration on high-quality privately funded criminal defence work. Subject to satisfying the Legal Aid Agency's requirements, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to act as the firm's Legal Aid Supervisor.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
