Senior Staff Nurse - Band 6 - Critical Care

We are currently recruiting for a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse with a strong background in critical care. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Senior Nurse Team in Wirral University Teaching Hospital, Critical Care.

This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression, with educational support tailored to individual needs and experience.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Significant experience in a critical care setting at Band 5 level
  • A recognised post-registration qualification in Critical Care
  • High compliance with all mandatory training requirements
  • A mentorship qualification (or equivalent)
  • Clear evidence of ongoing professional development

The successful candidate must be flexible and have an innovative approach to caring for the critically ill, an ability to introduce change to develop and encourage evidence based nursing practice.

This post is rotational between ITU and HDU and is also rotation of days and nights.

Role Responsibilities

  • Act as a specialist critical care nurse, assisting the sister/ charge nurse in the management and delivery of care through assessing, initiating and evaluating the provision of critical care within the department.
  • Act as a preceptor and supervisor to junior colleagues and unqualified support staff.
  • Act as senior nurse in the absence of the sister / charge nurse.
  • Carries out critical care specialist nurse duties, through supplemented training.
  • Participates in the rotation of all areas of critical care, as service needs require.
  • Acts as a specialist core team member working a high proportion of shifts out of hours.
