Cruise Director - Marella Cruises

Cruise Director (Entertainment Department) – Armada Maritima

About the Role

As the Cruise Director, you will manage the Entertainment Department onboard an Armada Maritima cruise ship.

The department includes:

  • An Assistant Cruise Director
  • Team of Entertainment Hosts
  • Production Cast Members
  • Technical Manager and Technicians
  • Children’s Host Team
  • Musical Director and Resident Musicians

Daily fly-on/off Guest Entertainers will also contribute to the department.

This is a high-visibility role requiring strong leadership, organisational skills, and guest engagement. Daily administrative tasks are essential to run the department safely and efficiently.

As the face of onboarding entertainment, you will drive guest engagement, revenue-generation events, and ensure a premium entertainment experience—collaborating with fellow department heads to create a dynamic, well-paced onboard schedule.


Key Responsibilities

Entertainment & Guest Engagement

  • Deliver and promote a high-quality entertainment package for all guests.
  • Host daily events, including:
    • Sail-away parties
    • Main stage theatre shows
    • Corporate-sponsored social events
  • Keep guests updated on entertainment schedules via the *public address system and Cruise News.
  • Drive revenue awareness through in-cabin announcements and promotional initiatives.
  • Train concessionaires on presentation style and passenger interaction.
  • Film and produce content for the Cruise Director TV channel, including revenue-generating promotions.

Hosting & Logistics

  • Lead high-profile revenue events, such as:
    • Exclusive memorabilia auctions (ensure att δύο to reach weekly targets).
    • Bingo and ticket sales (assisted by the Entertainment Team).
  • Manage an onboard TV schedule, including filming and broadcasting revenue streams.
  • Participate in Port Showcases, providing all necessary AV support and ensuring smooth execution.

People Management & Development

  • Provide line management for:
    • Assistant Cruise Director
    • Technical Manager
    • Musical Director
    • Show Cast Manager & M Club Manager
  • Conduct monthly 1-1s, appraisals, and development plans for all Entertainment Department members.
  • Enforce training, discipline, and safety policies.
  • Oversee guest welfare and ensure compliance with onboard policies.

Logistics & Compliance

  • Maintain show schedules, crew reports, and correspondence with RWS Global UK HQ.
  • Adjust entertainment programming based on real-time feedback and guest demographics.
  • Collaborate with technical and production teams to ensure smooth setup, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of stage properties, costumes, and AV equipment.

Revenue & Operations Support

  • Attend revenue, budget, and itinerary meetings to align planning with onboard targets.
  • Collaborate with VIP and Destination Services teams to protect key events (Port Showcases, Cruise Holiday stores).
  • Assist the hotel operations team on challenging days with gangway crowd control and safety measures.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Lead emergency procedures, including guest mustering and safety drills.
  • Follow all safety and compliance protocols, including company safeguarding policies for child engagement activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and security of backstage and storage areas.

Requirements & Experience

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years in divert entertainment programming, preferably within family-friendly cruise environments.
  • Strong hosting and public speaking skills.
  • Experience in performance stagecraft and guest interactions.
  • Skills in revenue promotions via entertainment platforms.
  • Proven people management experience.
  • ADR (Advanced Driver Licence) not required but preferred.

  • Maximum guest engagement – Extroverted, charismatic, and able to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail – organisinal skills to balance show productions and daily administrative duties.
  • Collaborative attitude – Works seamlessly with departments, technical teams, and senior management.
