Cryo Technician
Job Description: Cryogenic Asset Maintenance Technician
Purpose and Scope
Conducts periodic maintenance operations, reconstitution, storage, and deployment of cryogenic assets in compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and applicable USAF requirements. Follows standard operating procedures to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and adherence to:
- USAF Technical Orders
- Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS)
Essential Responsibilities
- Compliance – Adheres to all company standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, industrial safety policies, environmental regulations, and USAF Technical Orders.
- Cryogenic Maintenance – Performs periodic maintenance, reconstitution, and storage of cryogenic assets such as LOX and LIN tanks in strict alignment with USAF Technical Orders.
- Equipment Inspection & Repairs –
- Conducts inspections and evaluations of cryogenic assets and installed components.
- Identifies necessary replacement parts and part numbers.
- Investigates and resolves malfunctions in cryotainers, transfer tubes, and valves to ensure mission-readiness.
- Expedites cleaning, inspections, and repairs of cryogenic systems.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance – Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, executes corrective maintenance actions, and ensures troubleshooting documentation.
- Training & Calibration –
- Participates in equipment maintenance, shop safety, and relevant training programs.
- Oversees calibration of cryogenic gauges and hydrostatic testing of liquid samplers as required.
- Enforces corrosion control measures, including sanding damaged areas, cleaning, priming, and applying preservation materials.
- Deployment Prep – Prepares cryogenic assets for deployment following established procedures and documentation protocols.
- Administrative & Documentation –
- Documents time sheets, work orders, and maintenance records accurately and timely.
- Maintains cleanliness of work areas (internal and external surfaces).
- Operates Material Handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts) when required.
- Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Management –
- Conducts inventories of HAZMAT within the work center.
- Coordinates proper disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
- Miscellaneous – Engages in additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Formal Training – Meets cryogenics equipment mechanical maintenance standards via formal education or certified courses.
- Experience – 1–3 years in cryogenic equipment operations, ground support maintenance, or related field.
- Language Proficiency – Demonstrates a Level 3 understanding of written and spoken English, along with the ability to comprehends all technical publications.
- Licensing & Clearance –
- Valid driver’s license.
- Qualifies for operation of vehicles and material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts).
- Public Trust U.S. Government Clearance-eligibility (U.S. citizenship required).
- Required Certifications (Appendix J) –
- Completed Cryotainer Maintenance Course (J3AZR2F051 05AA) and awarded SEI 036.
- Validates qualified personnel status for cryogenic operations (e.g., AFSC 2F0X1 equivalents).
- Software Proficiency –
- Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation.
- Experience/ability to use DPAS (accountability software) and Maximo (maintenance/work orders).
- Work Authorisation – Authorised to work in the host country to perform job duties.
Physical & Mental Demand Requirements
- Strength – Capable of lifting, pushing/pulling 50+ pounds.
- Work Environment Conditions –
- Operates in a shop environment with potential exposure to:
- Toxic fumes/kemikalis
- Cuts and bruises from tools/equipment.
- Moving mechanical parts (forklifts, sweepers).
- Extreme noise/vibration.
- Extremes of temperature (heat, cold).
- High, precarious places and wet/humid conditions.
- Regular activities involve: standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and operating in uncomfortable positions.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, and potential electrical shock risk.
- Operates in a shop environment with potential exposure to:
- Safety Responsibility –
- Identifies unsafe conditions and reports hazards to management.
- participates in emergency drills and insists on correct PPE utilisation at all times.
- Acts on safety training requirements and abides by company safety policies.

Safety Culture
