Cryo Technician
Cryogenics Maintenance Specialist
Purpose and Scope
Conducts periodic maintenance operations, reconstitution, storage, and deployment of cryogenic assets in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and applicable USAF requirements. Follows established procedures to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction and ensures compliance with the PWS, Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS), and all governing standards.
Essential Responsibilities
Core Technical Duties
- Comply with all company standard operating procedures, work instructions, USAF Technical Orders, industrial safety, and environmental policies.
- Execute periodic maintenance, reconstitution, storage, and deployment of cryogenic assets (LOX, LIN tanks, and associated systems) in adherence with USAF Technical Orders.
- Inspect and evaluate cryogenic assets and installed components, identifying deficiencies and determining required replacement parts.
- Diagnose malfunctions and execute repairs to cryotainers, transfer tubes, valves, and other fittings to maintain equipment readiness.
- Clean, inspect, and repair cryogenic assets and components, ensuring adherence to all operating standards.
- Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions in cryogenic systems, implementing necessary maintenance actions.
- Participate in mandatory equipment maintenance, safety training, and lectures.
Environmental & Specifications Compliance
- Ensure calibration of cryogenic gauges and hydrostatic testing of liquid samplers.
- Perform corrosion control—including sanding damaged surfaces, cleaning, priming, painting, and applying preservation materials—per USAF standards.
- Prepare cryogenic assets for deployment in accordance with established procedures.
Administrative & Recordkeeping
- Prepare and maintain accurate time sheets, work orders, and maintenance records.
- Use DPAS (for accountability) and Maximo (for maintenance/work orders) systems.
- Operate material handling equipment (pallet jacks, 4K/10K forklifts) as necessary.
- Oversee inventories of hazardous materials (HAZMAT), coordinate disposal with appropriate offices, and follow HAZMAT disposal policies.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Completion of formal mechanical maintenance training for cryogenics equipment required.
- 1–3 years’ experience in cryogenics or ground support equipment maintenance, or an equivalent instructional background.
- Demonstrated Level 3 English competency (oral and written) to understand USAF documentation and reports.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain qualified certification for operator license, vehicle, and material handling equipment (including pallet jacks, forklifts).
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust Government Clearance (U.S. citizenship required for clearance).
- Completion of Cryotainer Maintenance Course (J3AZR2F051 05AA)
- Awardee of a Service Engineering Institute (SEI) certification 036.
Specific Certifications & Skills
- Ability to confirm that only qualified personnel (AFSC 2F0X1) or equivalent (host nation civilian or military, U.S. Civil Service employees) perform cryogenic operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for maintenance documentation.
- Capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling at least 50 lbs.
- Must be authorized to work in the host country.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Conditions & Risks
- Shop environment with moderate lighting, ventilation, and heating, exposed to fumes, noise, and machine hazards (forklifts, sweepers).
- Jobs routinely involve:
- Standing, manual dexterity, finger/hand operations, and communication (speaking, listening).
- ** Walking**, reaching, bending, and ** travaillé in tiring/uncomfortable postures**.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, taste/smell in extreme environments, including:
- Cold temperatures
- Exposure to vibration, moving machinery, noise (high/unsafe levels)
- Occasionally wet or humid conditions

Safety & Protective Equipment
- Required to wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) daily.
- Must be physically capable of engaging in manual labor repeatedly, including unsafe or hazardous situation interventions.
- Critical to follow PPE protocols and report violations per company policy.
