Cryo Technician
Cryogenic Asset Technician – Job Description
Purpose and Scope
Conducts periodic maintenance operations, reconstitution, storage, and deployment of cryogenic assets in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and applicable USAF requirements. Follows procedures to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, ensuring compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
Essential Responsibilities
- Complies with all company standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, USAF Technical Orders, and applicable industrial safety and environmental policies.
- Performs periodic maintenance, reconstitution, and storage of cryogenic assets (LOX and LIN tanks) according to USAF Technical Orders.
- Inspects and evaluates cryogenic assets and installed components, identifying necessary replacement parts and part numbers.
- Investigates malfunctions and performs repairs on cryotainers, transfer tubes, and valves, ensuring equipment remains mission-ready.
- Cleans, inspects, and repairs cryogenic assets and components.
- Troubleshoots dysfunctions in cryogenic assets and executes required maintenance actions.
- Participates in equipment maintenance, shop safety, and related training.
- Ensures calibration of cryogenic gauges and hydrostatic testing of liquid samplers.
- Executes corrosion control, including sanding, cleaning, priming, painting, and preserving surfaces as required.
- Prepares cryogenic assets for deployment according to established procedures.
- Documents time sheets, work orders, and maintenance records.
- Maintains cleanliness of inside and outside work areas.
- Operates Material Handling Equipment (MHE) when required.
- Inventories hazardous materials (HAZMAT) within the assigned work center and coordinates disposal with relevant offices.
- Performs other assigned duties as required.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Completion of formal training in mechanical maintenance of cryogenics equipment.
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in cryogenics, ground support equipment maintenance, or equivalent.
- Level 3 proficiency in written and spoken English, including comprehension of all required publications.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and qualify to operate vehicles and Material Handling Equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, 4K/10K forklifts).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust U.S. Government Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Contract-mandated qualifications:
- Completion of Cryotainer Maintenance Course (J3AZR2F051 05AA) and attainment of SEI 036 certification.
- Ensures only qualified personnel (AFSC 2F0X1), US Civil Service, US contract employees, host national military/civilian, or equivalent perform cryogenic operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documenting maintenance records and work orders.
- Capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling ≥50 lbs and operating MHE.
- Experience with DPAS (accountability system) and Maximo (maintenance/work orders).
- Must be authorized to work in the host country.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands
- Workshop environment: Moderately lit, heated, and ventilated, but exposed to disagreeable fumes, cuts/bruises, vehicle hazards (forklifts, sweepers), and moving machinery.
- Physical demands:
- Regularly: Stand, use hands/fingers, talk/hear.
- Frequently: Walk, reach with hands/arms; stoop/crouch in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
- Occasionally: Sit, climb, balance, taste/smell.
- Exposure risks:
- Moving parts, extreme heat/vibration, wet/humid conditions.
- Precarious places, fumes/airborne particles, extreme cold, risk of electrical shock.
- Noise: Loud or hazardous conditions.
- Protective measures: Must wear PPE and assess unsafe conditions while reporting safety concerns.
- Physical requirement: Lift/push/pull minimum 50 lbs; perform all duties safely.
