Cryogenic R&D Engineer

Senior Cryogenic Engineer – R&D (Quantum Computing)

About the Role and Team

Quantum Motion is a fast-growing quantum computing scale-up based in London, founded by internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University, with over 40 years’ experience in developing qubits and quantum computing architectures. Our mission is to build quantum processors based on industrial-grade silicon chips, aiming to revolutionise sectors like materials modelling, medicine, artificial intelligence (AI), and more.

Our progress has been recognised in the EE Times Top 100 Startups for 2021 and 2022, and our advancements have been featured in The Telegraph, BBC, and the New Statesman. Backed by Series C funding of $160 million, we are led by founders—including co-founders of Cadence and Synopsys—with a team of top-tier quantum engineers, integrated circuit (IC) engineers, quantum theorists, and software engineers.

Our collaborative, interdisciplinary culture fosters innovation in scalable quantum computing via silicon-based technology. With a 100+ strong team across London, Oxford, San Sebastián, and Sydney, our primary hub is in Isington, London.

The Team You’ll Join

You’ll report to the Staff Cryogenic Engineer, supporting our UK-based cryogenic R&D team. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing 7+ state-of-the-art cryogenic fridges and other facilities.
  • Overseeing lab deployments and installations.
  • Developing and improving cryogenic and quantum cooling components for dilution refrigerator systems.

This role is ideal for a specialist in cryogenic engineering with a passion for quantum computing, who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and problem-solving environment. Contribute daily to advancing ultra-low-temperature technology while mentoring apprentice engineers and advancing our utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer agenda.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
