Division: Enforcement & Market Oversight Department: Secondary Market Oversight Grade: Senior Associate – Regulatory
Salary:
- Edinburgh & Leeds: £53,000–£69,000
- London: £59,200–£76,000 (based on skills and experience)

Our Secondary Market Oversight department focuses on:
- Combating market abuse in secondary markets
- Monitoring markets as part of broader objectives to protect market integrity
The Market Abuse Surveillance Supervision (MASS) team is essential to this work, supervising:
- Market participants’ market abuse surveillance systems
- Detection and reporting of suspicious trade-related activities
- Implementation of Suspicious Transaction and Order Reports (STORs)
Role Responsibilities
- Assess firms’ and trading venues’ market abuse surveillance systems and controls across cryptoasset and traditional markets
- Deliver formal communications to internal/external stakeholders
- Support upskilling efforts by facilitating cryptoasset training for colleagues in response to the new regime shifts
- Provide updates and advice to SMO senior management on relevant regulatory developments

Key Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Practical experience in UK financial markets (e.g., financial firms, trading venues, financial services consultancies, or regulator roles)
- Hands-on knowledge of traded markets and market abuse typologies (demonstrated via prior experience)
- Cover letter (max 300 words) explaining suitability for the role – mandatory
Essential Criteria
✔ Understanding of:
- UK Market Abuse Regulation (UK MAR)
- UK cryptoasset regime, including:
- Market Abuse Regime for Cryptoassets (MARC)
- Admissions and Disclosures (A&D) (per CP25/41)
✔ Experience identifying/analysing risks from varied information sources
✔ Strong analytical & communication skills
✔ Ability to simplify complex events for clarity
✔ Curiosity, motivation to learn, and proactive mindset
✔ Demonstrable compliance/surveillance experience (e.g., financial services monitoring)
