This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a CTO based in United Kingdom.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technology leader to shape the future of an ambitious, open-source virtual world built on decentralized technologies. As Chief Technology Officer, you will define the technical vision, establish scalable engineering processes, and guide the evolution of a next-generation multiplayer platform. Working in a fully remote and globally distributed environment, you will collaborate with talented engineers while fostering a high-performance engineering culture. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise, offering the chance to influence architecture, security, product development, and long-term innovation in an emerging technology space.
Accountabilities
- Define and execute the overall technology strategy, ensuring alignment between engineering initiatives and long-term product objectives.
- Lead the design and evolution of scalable system architecture, front-end infrastructure, and technical frameworks that support continued platform growth.
- Establish and optimize production-ready engineering processes, including system administration, infrastructure management, security practices, and operational standards.
- Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering organization by promoting technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee engineering planning, resource allocation, and development priorities to ensure efficient project execution and timely delivery.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to iterate on product capabilities while maintaining technical quality and performance.
- Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and implementing best practices across development, deployment, and platform operations.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code quality initiatives, and strategic decision-making for complex engineering challenges.

Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in game development with demonstrated success in a senior technical leadership or technology management role.
- Proven ability to scale engineering teams, establish development processes, and lead technology strategy within high-growth or early-stage environments.
- Deep expertise in Three.js, React, Solidity, JavaScript, and C++, with strong software architecture and system design capabilities.
- Strong understanding of multiplayer systems, real-time applications, distributed architectures, and modern web technologies.
- Experience overseeing infrastructure, system administration, application security, and production operations.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to inspire and mentor engineering teams.
- Comfortable working in remote, globally distributed environments while managing multiple priorities and technical initiatives.
- Experience with multiple programming languages is highly desirable.
- Previous experience building a custom game engine or contributing to advanced game engine development is considered a strong advantage.
