Custody Navigator
Youth Justice Service Custody Navigator
South Tees Youth Justice Service are seeking to appoint a full-time custody navigator, to work with the youth justice services across the Cleveland Police area. You will have the drive and determination to contribute to the future development of youth justice services, improving performance and ensuring quality in the delivery of work with young people in police custody.
Role Overview
This post, part of a team of custody navigators, is funded by the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence (CURV) and aims to engage with young people who have been arrested by police and brought into the police custody suite. The custody navigator role will provide touchpoint opportunities, moments to engage with young people involved in serious violent offending and identify those who are ready to make changes in their lives.

Key Responsibilities
- Engage and support people at the point of arrest to build relationships and make positive changes.
- Provide ongoing contact and support with young people.
- Provide gateways into services to meet needs and assist individuals to realize and work towards achieving their goals and aspirations.
Requirements
- Experience of working with young people with complex needs.
- Proven ability to improve outcomes.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues from partner agencies.
- Understanding of using restorative approaches to overcoming barriers to engagement.
