Customer and Trading Manager - Online

Online Picking & Delivery Team Manager

Describing the Role

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Planning and orchestrating the delivery of an online picking and delivery team to ensure the success of the in-store online service.
  • Serving as a visible, inspirational leader, engaging and coaching a large team of shoppers and drivers to deliver a seamless and safe shopping experience for online and in-store customers.
  • Collaborating with other managers to uphold the overall shopping experience across the store.
  • Overseeing people management, including:
    • Managing team performance and capability
    • Conducting disciplinaries
    • Ensuring accurate scheduling and payroll

Key Working Hours: Online teams operate early mornings, typically 04:00 – 08:00, picking and preparing items for delivery.

What Makes a Great Online Manager?

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Previous line management experience in fast-paced, operational environments.
  • A commitment to brilliant customer service, with the ability to coach teams to deliver consistent excellence.
  • Strong performance focus, with a track record of meeting or exceeding KPIs and performance indicators.
  • Proficiency in managing disciplinaries, performance issues, and employee relations ethically and effectively.
  • Confidence in operational leadership, including the ability to run operations independently when senior managers are absent.

Essential Criteria

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service and inspiring colleagues to do the same.
  • Experience leading teams in fast-paced, customer-facing environments, with performance motivation and smooth operations management.
  • Demonstrated operational leadership, including handling store operations independently when required.
  • Measurable success in meeting or exceeding KPIs—be it in sales, operational availability, customer satisfaction, or colleague engagement.
  • Experience in managing employee relations, including performance, absence, and disciplinary issues.
