Customer Assistant – M&S Food Section

  • Tuesday 05:30–09:30
  • Wednesday 05:30–09:30
  • Thursday 05:30–09:30
  • Friday 05:00–09:00
  • ** Saturday** 05:00–09:00

Note: An unsocial premium of £3.00/hour applies to any shifts worked between 22:00–06:00.


About the Role

Join Marks & Spencer (M&S) as a Customer Assistant in our Food section. You’ll form part of the UK’s fastest-growing retailer, lending your expertise at the forefront of frontline service.

Our Customer Assistants are dynamic and proactive, ready to push boundaries in training, operation, and product knowledge to meet soaring customer demand.

  • Contribute to sales growth by confidently recommending and selling our newest M&S Food products.
  • Elevate the customer experience through outstanding service, leaving shoppers feeling truly valued.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting, staying agile and focused during peak periods.
  • Assist with displaying, shelving, and restocking inventory whilst upholding high standards.
  • Key focus: customer retention through outstanding product knowledge and sales pitch.

Frontline Service Excellence

  • Deliver five-star customer service with a customer-first mindset.
  • Handle promotions confidently, highlighting value and increasing basket size.
  • Resolve customer enquiries effectively, using product knowledge to address concerns.
  • Adhere to M&S Brand Core, reinforcing its reputation for quality.

Upskilling & Sales Growth

  • Train bravely and independently on new products or product launches.
  • Drive revenue by upselling or cross-selling to enhance basket value.
  • Embrace innovation across our digital tools and technologies.

Operations & Teamwork

  • Perform display and visual merchandising tasks with precision.
  • Adhere to safety, hygiene, and anti-food waste guidelines.
  • Maintain a positive work culture, offering ongoing support within the team.
  • Collaborate in a networked environment across the store—adapt to varied tasks.

Digital Proficiency

  • Utilise digital tools, such as the Sparks App and in-store stock/data systems, effortlessly.
  • Optimise customer time in store, ensuring seamless order fulfilment and product availability.
