Customer Assistant (Food Section) – Mark & Spencer

Work Pattern

Week 1

  • Sunday: 0600–1100
  • Monday: 0500–1000
  • Friday: 0500–1000
  • Saturday: 0500–1000

Week 2

  • Sunday: 0600–1100
  • Wednesday: 0500–1000
  • Friday: 0500–1000
  • Saturday: 0500–1000

Please Note: Additional pay (£3.00 per hour unsocial premium) is applied to hours worked between 22:00–06:00.


About the Role

Join Mark & Spencer (M&S) as a Customer Assistant in our Food section. This role places you at the forefront of the UK’s fastest-growing retailer—we need more than just stock-walkers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide five-star customer service, ensuring every shopper feels valued and catered to
  • Confidently recommend and sell new M&S Food products, utilising product knowledge
  • Operate digitally, using apps/devices (e.g. Sparks) to maintain accurate inventory and order fulfilment
  • Maintain a fast-paced, energetic cleanliness across the store, including shelves, displays, and checkout areas
  • Assist with sales and checkout processes
  • Collaborate effectively within the team, supporting colleagues to keep operations flowing smoothly
  • Adapt to changing circumstances (e.g. demand peaks) and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Requirements

  • Must be 18+ (due to early shift timings and compliance with legislation)
  • Customer service mentality – unshaken when pressure mounts, focused on delivering an exceptional experience
  • Self-driven and resilient – able to tackle multiple tasks efficiently while staying positive
  • Digital confidence – comfortable using in-store tech platforms for tasks like ordering and inventory tracking
  • Willingness to work across different roles – flexibility to contribute wherever needed, particularly as workload varies
