Customer Category Manager – Wholesale & Convenience (Fixed Term, 12 Months)
Location: York (Hybrid working – 2-3 office days per week) Salary: £40,000–£45,000 (pro rata)

Based in the Business Area: Nestlé UK&I – Confectionery, Nestlé’s Customer Category Manager – Wholesale & Convenience opportunities allow you to partner with some of the world’s most beloved brands, putting the consumer first to deliver exceptional treats.
As a division of Nestlé UK&I, this role focuses on developing deep relationships with wholesale & convenience accounts while executing strategic category growth plans.
What This Role Does For Nestlé
This Customer Category Manager position—reporting to the Customer Category Lead—seeks a results-driven professional with a proven track record in FMCG category management. You’ll need to:
- Work as a category-first partner, prioritising the category over individual brands, while providing data-backed insights to drive long-term growth.
- Tailor channel-specific strategies for wholesale and convenience formats, ensuring alignment with retailer needs.
- Develop critical relationships with buying, merchandising, and ranging teams, acting as their trusted advisor for category strategy.
- Execute POPs, adjacency, and flow recommendations to optimise in-store performance and deliver 'Perfect Store' outcomes.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and shopper dynamics to keep Nestlé’s commercial vision relevant.
- Bridge internal expertise and external insights—aligning NPD, brand development, and commercial strategy with customer demands.

Core Responsibilities
Strategy & Insight Development
- Create winning customer category plans that drive ROI and long-term growth
- Translate data into compelling stories to influence retailers and fellow stakeholders
- Ensure Nestlé’s category and NPD strategies are aligned with customer and consumer needs
Relationship Management
- Act as the lead category advisor for high-value wholesale/convenience retailers
- Be a proactive partner to buyers, merchandisers, and range managers
- Engage externally with POP execution and in-store flow optimisation
Commercial Execution
- Work with cross-functional teams (marketing, commercial, product dev) to align plans
- Act as a shopper-focused commentator, understanding format-specific challenges
- Continuously adapt strategies to competitive and market shifts
Innovation & Collaboration
- Challenge industry norms, proposing fresh ideas to break through stagnation
- Foster open communication across the category team and stakeholder groups
- Champion inclusion, diversity, and flexibility in approach
What Success Looks Like
We’re seeking a commercial category leader with: ✔ Major FMCG experience—ideally in category leadership roles within the wholesale/convenience sector ✔ A strong analytical mindset, capable of translating data into actionable insights ✔ Resilience and adaptability, thriving in complex or fast-moving environments ✔ A customer-centric culture, understanding that inclusive collaboration drives excellence ✔ Courage to speak their mind, bringing forward bold but credible recommendations ✔ Passion for ongoing learning—insightful curiosity and an appetite for why and how ✔ Respect for community, demonstrating initiative to support broader societal initiatives
