About the Role
Our Customer Delivery Drivers are the face of Tesco, delivering exceptional service to customers across the UK. You’ll travel from Lands’ End to John O’Groats, connecting with customers daily and making a real difference in their lives.
This hands-on, varied role goes beyond driving—it’s about build[ing] relationships, delivering smiles, and providing support when it’s needed most. You’ll work largely independently during shifts but always with the backing of a supportive Tesco team.

Availability Window
Tesco requires participation in the following shifts, though flexibility is accommodated if times are close (but not identical).

Key Notes:
- Shifts will be scheduled within these windows with 3 weeks’ notice.
- Additional flexibility is considered for those whose availability closely aligns with these times.
Rate of Pay & Guaranteed Hours
- Base Pay: Starting at £14.18/hour (rising to £15.45 for stores within the M25).
- Possible additional payments based on geographic location.
- Guaranteed minimum hours: 16 hours per week for new starters (or 12 hours minimum for those with adjusted availability).
Key Responsibilities
As a Customer Delivery Driver at Tesco, you will:
- Ensure service excellence by completing deliveries efficiently:
- Deliver orders within allocated time slots.
- Call customers before arrival if arriving early (scheduled or not).
- Alert store centres if running 30+ minutes late.
- Handle customer interactions professionally:
- Discuss order changes (substitutions, short codes) calmly and courteously.
- Provide genuine apologies for any issues and explain substitution policies.
- Offer refunds where applicable.
- Keep customers informed about any delays, changes, or incidents.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and appearance:
- Van care: ensure vehicles are clean, tidy, and well-stocked.
- Load/unload trays securely and take part in tray-washing processes.
- Maintain cleanliness of the vegetable bar and yard area (collect litter).
- Conduct pre-shift safety checks (roadworthiness, tyres, etc.).
- Act with integrity and discretion:
- Handle cash repayments and sensitive customer information confidentially and respectfully.

Requirements for the Role
Essential Qualifications
- A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence (automatic or manual) for at least 12 months.
- No more than 3 penalty points on your driving record.
- Ability to walk short distances daily and carry heavy loads (e.g., third-party mealboxes,/all deliveries).
- Commitment to flexible working to allow shift scheduling.

- Strong communication skills and attention to detail, especially when addressing complaints.
- Problem-solving mindset—adapting quickly to fulfil customers’ needs effectively.
