Driver Technician Trainee (7.5t) – Customer Delivery & Installation
About the Role
As our Driver Technician Trainee 7.5t, you’ll complete our 3-month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence. Following successful training, you’ll deliver and install products—such as furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems, and TVs—directly to our customers’ homes as part of a 2-person delivery crew. Outages include:
- Age requirement: Must be 18+ by start date.
- Remuneration:
- Contractual pay: £30,000–£37,700 per annum.
- Premium pay:
- Evening Premium: £2.75/hour (18:00–22:00).
- Night Premium: £3.75/hour (22:00–06:00).
Key Responsibilities
As a Driver Technician Trainee, you’ll:
- Complete the 90-day Customer Delivery Driver training programme and graduate as a qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 licence.
- Ambassadorship: Represent John Lewis through excellent customer service.
- Vehicle handling:
- Perform daily vehicle checks.
- Assist with loading deliveries and collaborating with the warehouse team.
- Installation tasks:
- Install wall-mounted TVs, integrated appliances, and hard-wired setups efficiently.
- Demonstrate product functionality to customers post-installation.
- Upkeep & knowledge:
- Stay updated with new products and technologies.
- Comply with legal driving regulations, Working Time Directive, and EU safety directives.
- Job constraints:
- Completing the 3-month programme depends on your input and progression.
- This includes heavy lifting, such as transporting sofas, white goods, furniture, and mattresses.

Requirements
Essential
- UK B-Category (7.5t) manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Previous customer-facing role (essential).
- Strong verbal communication skills through both phone and in-person interactions.
- Basic tech literacy with an interest in product installation.
Desirable
- Installation or customer delivery experience.
- Previous role lead or team collaboration experience.
Additional Working Details
- ** Job level**: Partnership Level 10
- Location: South Central Customer Delivery Hub, Southampton, Hampshire, SO169BN.
- Contract: Permanent.
- Hours: 41 hours per week, spread across 4 days in a 5-week rotation.
- Shifts:
- AM Shift: Monday–Saturday, 06:00–17:00.
- PM Shift: Monday–Friday, 10:30–21:30; Saturday, 07:00–18:00.
