Customer Service Assistant Role – Keynsham (SPAR Retail)

About Appleby Westward

Appleby Westward is the SPAR Wholesaler and Retailer covering the West of England.

Our Retail Distribution Centre and Support Offices are based in Saltash, Cornwall, where we employ around 2,000 colleagues. We service both our independent retail network and company-owned SPAR stores, spanning communities from Chichester to Land’s End, as well as Bristol and Salisbury.

Our SPAR retail stores offer:

  • Convenience goods
  • Groceries and chilled foods
  • Food-to-go options
  • Essential local services (Post Office, lottery, online collection/delivery)

We take pride in supporting our communities, providing high-quality service, and actively fundraising for local charities, particularly our main partner Marie Curie.

The Role: Customer Service Assistant

Key Responsibilities

  • Warm Welcomes: Always deliver excellent customer service with professionalism and genuine pride in serving the local community.
  • Store Standards: Help maintain smooth daily operations, ensuring high cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Product Expertise & Customer Delight:
    • Use product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
    • Stay updated on promotions and create eye-catching store displays.
  • Accuracy & Security: Process sales transactions precisely, including cash-up duties, and safeguard company funds.
  • Stock Management: Collaborate with your team to handle receiving, replenishing, and stock displays.
  • Cleanliness: Contribute to keeping the store spotless and welcoming.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Follow food quality, labelling, and allergen regulations.
    • Adhere to Age-Related Sales compliance (e.g., Think 25).
    • Uphold strict Health & Safety protocols for colleagues and customers.
