About Appleby Westward
Appleby Westward operates as the SPAR Wholesaler and Retailer serving the West of England. Our core operations include:
- A Retail Distribution Centre and Support Offices based in Saltash, Cornwall, employing around 2,000 colleagues across:
- Wholesale distribution
- Independent retail network
- Company-owned SPAR retail stores
- SPAR remains the leading convenience brand, spanning locations from Chichester to Land’s End, and covering areas like Bristol and Salisbury.

- Convenience goods, groceries, chilled foods, and food-to-go

About the Role: Customer Service Assistant
This position is more than a job—it’s the start of a retail career with growth opportunities, training, and apprenticeship pathways.
Responsibilities
- Pride in Service: Deliver warm welcomes and excellent customer interactions with a focus on supporting local communities.
- Store Standards: Play a key role in ensuring operational efficiency.
- Customer Satisfaction & Product Knowledge:
- Display expertise in products
- Stay updated on promotions and create engaging eye-catching displays
- Transaction Accuracy: Handle sales—including cash handling—securely and accurately (checkout functionality, till replenishment).
- Stock Management: Take ownership of receiving, replenishing, and stock presentation.
- Cleanliness & Maintenance: Work collaboratively to keep the store tidy and appealing.
- Legal Compliance:
- Ensure allergen labelling standards and product quality integrity
- Maintain compliance with Age-Related Sales policies and Think 25 guidance
- Health and Safety: Follow all protocols to safeguard colleagues and customers.
