About Appleby Westward
Appleby Westward is the SPAR Wholesaler and Retailer covering the West of England. Our Retail Distribution Centre and Support Offices are based in Saltash, Cornwall, where we employ around 2,000 colleagues who support our wholesale distribution operations for our independent retail estate, SPAR retail stores, and networks across the region.
Our SPAR retail stores are the leading convenience brand, operating across communities from Chichester to Land’s End, and from Bristol to Salisbury. In addition to convenience goods, groceries, chilled foods, and food-to-go, we provide essential local services, including:

Your Responsibilities
- Warm Welcomes: Deliver a positive customer experience at every interaction, creating a smile-first culture.
- Store Standards and Efficiency: Ensure the store operates smoothly, maintaining the highest standards in customer satisfaction and service excellence.
- Product & Promotion Knowledge: Develop expertise in products, stay updated with promotions, and create visually appealing displays to enhance the shopping experience.
- Transaction Accuracy: Maintain meticulous attention to detail to guarantee fully accurate, error-free transactions, including accurate till processes and securing company cash.
- Stock Management: Take ownership of receiving, stock replenishment, and display for assigned sections of the store.
- Cleanliness & Store Presentation: Support in maintaining a clean, tidy, and welcoming retail environment at all times.
- Compliance & Food Safety:
- Ensure proper food storage, labelling, and allergen management.
- Keep up to date with legal regulations on product quality and traceability.
- Age-Related Sales: Fully comply with age-restricted product sales policies, working with the Think 25 guidance framework.
- Health and Safety: Uphold strict health and safety protocols to protect colleagues, customers, and the store environment.
