Customs Officer – International Transit & SPS Compliance

Hannon Transport

Hours

  • Monday–Thursday: 1pm–9pm
  • Friday: 2pm–10pm
  • On-call rotation: 1 weekend in 4

About the Role

Are you a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual who thrives in fast-paced, multitasking environments? This exciting opportunity within Hannon Transport’s established Customs Department offers you the chance to develop expertise in a high-growth, highly regulated sector as part of Ireland’s leading logistics provider.

You’ll work alongside internal teams, customers, hauliers, ferry operators, and regulatory authorities to ensure smooth, compliant movement of goods across international borders. A key focus of the role involves supporting European Transit (T2) movements crossing the GB landbridge, including:

  • Coordinating customs transit documentation for EU-origin goods moving via Great Britain
  • Managing SPS-controlled consignments, including:
    • Preparation and submission of CHEDs (Customs Handling of Imports and Export Declatures)
    • Health documentation and pre-notifications for authorities (DAFM, DAERA, NVWA, SIVEP)
  • Ensuring alignment between transit documents, commercial paperwork, and SPS declarations to prevent delays, inspections, or penalties
  • Monitoring movements through ports and Border Control Posts for compliance and timely release

Full training and structured support will be provided, covering:

  • Customs systems and procedures
  • Transit and SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) requirements

Flexibility in working patterns is essential due to the time-critical nature of cross-border logistics and port operations.


Responsibilities

  • Computerised data entry into bespoke customs software (e.g., TRACES Trader Support Service, Thyme IT)
  • Ensuring full compliance with customs procedures through proper documentation and control
  • Liaising with stakeholders (customers, hauliers, authorities) to facilitate efficient goods transport
  • Correct completion of customs forms according to customer-specific requirements
  • Completing a unique customs training program to build expertise
  • Collaborating within a dynamic Customs Department to meet tight deadlines
  • Additional tasks: query resolution, month-end reporting, and general administrative support

Requirements

Essential: ✔ 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4+ (must include Maths & English) ✔ ICT expertise (Microsoft Office packages) ✔ Ability to multitask, work independently, and as part of a team ✔ Strong communication skills ✔ Willingness to work flexibly due to operational demands

Preferred (but not essential): ✔ Previous customs or logistics-related experience
