Customs Care Operative

Customs Care Operator

Bullet Express, Bothwell, Glasgow

Bullet Express is a Glasgow-based logistics business providing transport, warehousing, customs, and international freight solutions to customers across the UK and beyond.

As our customs and international activity continues to grow, we are looking to add to our team.

This role would suit someone looking to build or develop a career in customs, freight forwarding, or international logistics. Previous customs experience would be beneficial, but it is not essential, as full training will be provided for the right person.

Customs Care Operator

  • Location: Bullet Express, Bothwell, Glasgow
  • Reports to: Head of International
  • Salary: £24,000 – £26,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Contract: Permanent, full-time
  • Working hours: To be confirmed
  • Probation: 3-month probationary period, with weekly reviews for the first four weeks and monthly reviews thereafter
  • Closing date: 20th July

Role Overview

The role will involve supporting our customs and international operations team with customs-related processes, documentation checks, customer communication, and internal coordination to help ensure shipments move compliantly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer paperwork to ensure customs documentation is present and accurate.
  • Check commercial invoices, packing lists, commodity descriptions, HS codes, country of origin, and consignee/importer details.
  • Liaise with customers to request missing or corrected documentation.
  • Support customs-related processes for import, export, NI, ROI, and EU movements.
  • Work closely with our Worldwide, Transport, Warehouse, and Customer Service teams.
  • Monitor shared mailboxes and respond to customs-related queries.
  • Update internal systems and trackers with customs status information.
  • Assist with GMR, ENS, MRN, EAD, T1, and other customs-related references where required.
  • Escalate any documentation, compliance, or shipment issues where required.
  • Maintain accurate records for audit and operational purposes.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good administration and organisational skills.
  • Confident communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time-sensitive tasks.
  • Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, and internal systems.
  • Willingness to learn customs processes and follow procedures accurately.
  • Team player with a practical, common-sense approach.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in customs, freight forwarding, logistics, transport, administration, customer service, or international trade.
  • Understanding of import/export documentation.
  • Knowledge of customs terms such as HS codes, EORI numbers, country of origin, MRNs, GMRs, ENS, EADs, or T1 movements.
  • Experience dealing with customers, brokers, hauliers, or customs partners.
