As a Customs Executive (Road), you will play a vital role in our Central Customs Team. Reporting to the Senior Customs Executive, you will focus primarily on Road Freight Customs Entries - ensuring seamless clearances, resolving complex compliance queries, and managing duty/VAT reclaims, all while keeping strict adherence to customer SLAs and regulatory standards.
Your Role:
- Process accurate import customs declarations within agreed SLAs, managing road freight entries in line with HMRC and customer requirements.
- Support GVMS, inventory-linked border processes, and manage movements using CargoWise, Descartes Pentant, Destin8, and CNS.
- Oversee and discharge T1 transit movements (NCTS, Common Transit procedures, and MOTIS operations).
- Validate commercial invoices and supporting documents, calculate customs duty/VAT, raise customer invoices, and complete post-entry amendments or reclaims.
- Support commodity code classifications, answer customer and internal queries promptly, build strong relationships across carriers and teams, and drive continuous improvement within the team.

What You'll Need:
Essential
- Hands-on experience processing customs declarations in a freight forwarding, logistics, or customs environment.
- Solid knowledge of UK import customs procedures, documentation, and GVMS.
- Experience with NCTS, Common Transit procedures, and MOTIS operations.
- Hands-on experience using CargoWise (or similar customs/freight management software).
- Strong understanding of customs duty, VAT, and commodity classification principles.
- Excellent organisational skills, keen attention to detail, and top-tier customer service skills.
Desirable
- Specialised road freight customs experience highly preferred.
- Professional customs qualification (e.g. BIFA or UK Customs Academy).
