It's more than a job
As a Customs Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel, your job is to optimise logistics to keep our global supply chains running smoothly. But the impact of your work goes beyond that. It's import and export work, but it's also so much more than we imagine.
The purpose of the role
The purpose of the role is to complete customs entries and support administrative activities within the Customs Department to enable the servicing of internal stakeholders and external customers. A significant aspect of this role is working to contractual terms with a range of customers. The role reports to an External Customs Manager.
How you create impact
- Complete Import, export and T1 entries ensuring that all details align with the provided paperwork / instructions.
- Work within agreed customer SLAs to ensure timely and accurate service delivery.
- Take ownership of customer queries, ensuring prompt resolution and clear communication.
- Root causes of issues, highlight recurring failures, and support continuous improvement.
- Support hyper care activities during the onboarding of new business.
- Act as the first line of escalation for customer issues, escalating to management when required.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to support smooth operational performance.
- Contribute to reviewing and updating SOPs to maintain accurate and efficient processes.
- Monitor customer adherence to SOPs and highlight any deviations for corrective action.

- Attention to detail and compliance focus — ensure accurate customs declarations to maintain compliance
- Customer service excellence — able to communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently with customers via email and weekly calls, managing expectations and building trust.
- Problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis — capable of identifying underlying issues, spotting patterns, and contributing to corrective actions.
- Planning and organisation — able to prioritise tasks, manage multiple customers, and meet SLAs.
- Escalation management — confident acting as first line escalation and knowing when to involve management.
- Understanding of customs processes — knowledge of import/export procedures, documentation requirements, and HMRC regulations.
- Ownership mindset — takes responsibility for queries, tasks, and outcomes.
