What You’ll Be Doing
As a Cyber Degree Apprentice, you’ll play a unique role within our Cyber Security & Resilience team. Your duties will include:
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in a dynamic environment, gaining direct exposure to all Cyber Security & Resilience teams:
- Security Operations
- Security Engineering
- Business Resilience
- Attack Surface Management
- Cyber Governance & Assurance
- Support the group’s threat-led approach to defending against cyber and resilience risks:
- Assess the potential impact of threats or system changes on customers, business operations, and business assets.
- Translate complex cyber risks and technical findings into clear, actionable insights for everyone involved.
- Collaborate with cyber professionals, analysts, and stakeholders across Royal London to ensure a strong cyber security posture is maintained.
- Balance your day-to-day role with structured off-the-job learning and study to facilitate growth.
Degree Apprenticeship
While working at Royal London, you will undertake the BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions: Professional (Cyber Security) Degree Apprenticeship at Manchester Metropolitan University. This programme is delivered over four years and combines both theory and practical application.

- A final-year work-based project focused on leveraging your learning to contribute strategically to the department.
About You
Graduate Apprentice Criteria
Ideally, you’ll have:
- A genuine interest in cyber security and a desire to build a career in this area.
- A logical and curious mindset, along with enthusiasm to learn and a constructive attitude.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively and ask questions to seek clarity and collaboration.
- The motivation to actively manage your time between working and studying.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To meet apprenticeship funding requirements, you’ll need to meet certain criteria for the BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions: Professional (Cyber Security) Degree Apprenticeship:
- Be at least 18 years of age at the course start date.
- Have the right to live and work in the UK.
Additionally, you’ll need to meet one of the following options:
- Minimum 104 UCAS points at A-Level (grades BCC or above) or equivalent qualifications (e.g., BTEC with Distinction in all three subjects).
- A strong preference will be given if you have qualifications in computing-related subjects though qualifications alone are not mandatory.
- Non-standard entry will be considered for applicants who do not meet the UCAS requirement but have at least one year’s relevant experience.
- Apprentices with relevant Level 2 qualifications in English & Maths will usually be exempt from studying Functional Skills alongside their degree. Those without these qualifications will need to complete Functional Skills in Maths and/or English in tandem.
