About the Role

The Cyber Response & Recovery Assistant Manager role is based within our Cyber Response Services (CRS) Team under the Advisory practice, reporting directly to cyber leadership. KPMG has identified cyber security as a key area for significant growth—supporting clients as they navigate and mitigate evolving threats.

This hands-on, high-performance role offers:

  • Exposure to a wide range of clients as one of just nine "Tier 1 responders" in the UK.
  • Rapid experience development through on-the-job training and security certifications.
  • A dynamic environment where you’ll pioneer strategic responses to cyber threats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Incident Response & Recovery:

    • Lead cyber incident response activities on behalf of clients, including on-call commitments (monthly availability).
    • Conduct digital forensics (e.g., disk analysis, volatile memory extraction, network packet capture, log file review).
  • Threat Landscape & Advisory:

    • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of current cyber threats and advise clients on relevant attack vectors and mitigation strategies.
  • Client Engagement & Delivery:

    • Liaise with clients on project delivery, implementation, and issue resolution.
    • Develop structured responses for bids, RFPs, and stakeholder communications.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Technical Expertise:

    • A strong background in computers, networks, and programming (e.g., Python, scripting).
    • Proven experience in handling cyber security incidents and managing response measures.
    • Knowledge of information security methodologies, principles, technologies, and techniques.
  • Business Acumen:

    • A broad understanding of evolving cyber threats.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to engage with clients and cross-functional teams.
  • Certifications & Qualifications (Preferred):

    • Current government security clearance (SC/DV) or willingness to pursue it.
    • Certifications such as:
      • CREST CCIM (Certified Incident Manager)
      • GIAC GCIH (Certified Incident Handler)
      • CREST CPIA (Certified Practitioner Intrusion Analyst)
    • Degree in Information Security, IT, or a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., MSc).

Desired but Not Essential

  • Experience with specific Threat Intelligence platforms (e.g., MISP, AlienVault).
  • Familiarity with ISACA CISM or ISO 27001 principles.
