Cyber Security Apprentice
As a Cyber Security Apprentice, you'll play a vital role in helping protect our people, systems & information. Working alongside experienced IT and Security professionals, you'll develop the skills and knowledge required to identify cyber risks, support security operations, and contribute to a strong security culture across the business.
Wage
£20,500 a year. Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab).

What you'll do at work

You'll gain practical experience across a range of cyber security activities while working towards the Level 3 Cyber Security Technician Apprenticeship Standard. No two days are the same and with the support of experienced colleagues, you'll:
- Support the monitoring and maintenance of security controls designed to protect company systems and information.
- Assist with identifying, investigating and escalating potential cyber security incidents.
- Help maintain cyber security policies, standards and procedures. Support information security audits and compliance reviews.
- Assist with maintaining security risk registers and tracking remediation activities.
- Help monitor vulnerabilities and support actions to reduce cyber security risks.
- Contribute to cyber security awareness campaigns and training activities across the business.
- Assist with access management processes, ensuring users have appropriate permissions.
- Support the management of security documentation, records and reporting.
- Work with internal stakeholders and third-party suppliers to help maintain secure systems and services.
- Assist with the investigation of suspicious activity and contribute to incident response activities.
- Develop knowledge of security frameworks, legislation, standards and industry best practices.

What you'll learn
Course contents:
- Follow information security procedures
- Maintain information security controls
- Develop information security training and awareness resources
- Monitor the effectiveness of information security training and awareness
- Handle and assess the validity of security requests from a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Follow technical procedures to install and maintain technical security controls
- Monitor and report information security events
- Recognise when and how to escalate information security events in accordance with relevant procedures and standards
- Review and modify access rights to digital information systems, services, devices or data
- Maintain an inventory of digital information systems, services, devices and data storage
- Scopes cyber security vulnerability assessments
- Evaluate the results of a cyber security vulnerability assessment
- Perform routine threat intelligence gathering tasks through consulting external sources
- Undertake digital information risk assessments
- Identify and categorise threats, vulnerabilities and risks in preparation for response or escalation
- Document cyber security event information whilst preserving evidence
- Draft information management reports using standard formats appropriate to the recipients
- Review and comment upon cyber security policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
- Perform cyber security compliance checks
- Translate audit requirements and collate relevant information from log files, incident reports and other data sources
- Communication skills to co-operate as part of a multi-functional, multi-disciplinary team using a range of technical and non-technical language to provide an effective interface between internal or external users and suppliers
- Keep up-to-date with legislation and industry standards related to the implementation of cyber security in an organisation

Training schedule
As a Cyber Security Apprentice, you'll gain practical experience across a range of cyber security activities while working towards the Level 3 Cyber Security Technician Apprenticeship Standard. This role will be based at our Birmingham office with opportunities for hybrid working where appropriate. Occasional travel to other Tilbury Douglas locations may be required as part of your development.
More training information
The structure of the actual apprenticeship will be based on the relevant standards and will be tailored to take account of the individual employer and the apprentice's needs and wants. As a minimum, this will include:
- Briefing and engagement sessions delivered by Bragd and the employer to explain the apprenticeship in more detail
- An initial assessment of your level of relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) to create a tailored, individualised programme for you
- An initial assessment of your level of functional skills including English and mathematics
- A bespoke training and learning plan (ITP) for you that describes the activities that you will complete as part of your learning journey
- A structured programme of 'off the job' training, learning and development activities that meet the ‘OTJ’ requirement - delivered by a team of experienced trainers, tutors and coaches
- Ongoing 1-2-1 support from your employer and a dedicated tutor/coach from Bragd
- Regular assessment, advice, guidance and signposting to keep you on track with developing the required knowledge, skills and behaviours, while enabling you to expand and strengthen your wider skill set
- Weekly progress updates and quarterly progress reviews to recognise achievement, confirm additional support needs and identify next steps
- Dedicated support and guidance to prepare you for your end-point assessment, enabling you to confidently demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) you have developed during your apprenticeship journey.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths, English and Computer Science (grade 9 to 4)

Other requirements
We’re looking for organised, motivated individuals who are passionate about technology, security and problem-solving. You'll bring:
- An interest in cyber security, technology and digital systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately.
- Experience of Microsoft Office applications (desirable but not essential).
- The ability to manage and prioritise tasks in a busy environment

Previous office experience is helpful but not essential – we’re looking for potential, not perfection.
