Cyber Security Architect
Senior Security Architect – Transformer Lead
Permanent Role
Build a brilliant future with Hiscox
About the Organisation
You’ve likely encountered Hiscox through our bold black-and-red advertising or heard us on the radio. Insurance doesn’t just manage risks—it enables outcomes: protecting individuals and businesses so they can take the risks worth taking.
Beyond the broader market perception, Hiscox is at the heart of a meaningful transformation. We handle life-and-death situations like kidnap and ransom, rupture complex insurance scenes like flooded Ferraris in basements, and underwrite cutting-edge risks such as:
- Cyber insurance
- Marine cargo
- High-net-worth individual protections
Our deep involvement in cyber risk means our security team operates with real-world threat intelligence—a level of confidence rarely matched in the industry.
The Role
This leadership position cross-sections everyday security operations and a $200m transformation programme, ensuring that security is baked into new and existing systems from inception. You’ll engage directly with:
- Technology teams
- Underwriters
- Operations leads
- Senior stakeholders
By unifying these areas and addressing real-world pain points—such as distributed data, agentic AI, and supply chain vulnerabilities—you’ll take ownership of a diverse portfolio, managing projects with multiple stakeholders across technology, data, and business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lone leadership: Manage a range of concurrent engagements, from risk analysis to solution implementation
- Aggregate risk view: Consolidate evaluation across your portfolio, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure visible reporting to senior stakeholders
- Empowerment: Act as the primary escalation point for junior teams, translating complex security concerns into actionable recommendations
- Architectural strategist: Turn business needs into secure, pragmatic solutions that mitigate threats without stifling innovation
- Security culture builder: Embed cybersecurity awareness throughout business-led transformations—ensuring progress isn’t at the expense of safety

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Core objective: Help Hiscox scale boldly and seamlessly with security as the foundation, not an afterthought.
Requirements
This is a role that demands breadth across challenging security ecosystems, evidenced through hands-on leadership rather than mere exposure:
- Cloud security architecture: Expertise in Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and AWS—combining architectural vision with implementation rigor
- Financial sector compliance: Glasshouse in FCA, Lloyd’s, and NYDFS, with bonus points for DORA (early-adopter advantage)
- Security innovation: Track record of evaluating, implementing, and shepherding cutting-edge solutions—android alpha for operational scalability or defensive strategy
- Stakeholder congruence: Ability to speak fluently across the spectrum, from executive boards to operational underwriters or frontline compliance teams
- Business embeddedment: A proven case study of partnering with stakeholders to fortify security into transformation initiatives—with tangible outcomes measured against risk exposure
- Automation fluency: Scripting ability—even if you’re not a coder, hands-on experience with automation tools positively impacts credibility (e.g., penetration testing framework refinement, rule-based threat correlation*)
- AI/Data risk governance: Deep understanding of security impacts from large-scale AI workflows and data science operations—navigating implications that non-security experts haven’t yet confronted
