Cyber Security Architect
Location: Newport (Hybrid) Salary: Up to £55,000 Pension: 29% Flexible Working: Full Flexi-Time (37.5 hours on any schedule between 5am–10pm)
The Opportunity
Yolk Recruitment are working with an innovation-driven civil service organisation committed to digital transformation, secure-by-design principles, and forward-thinking security practices.

This role involves collaborating across senior security leadership, technical teams, and cloud/hybrid environments to:
- Champion security standards and compliance with frameworks like ISO 27001, PCI DSS, NCSC guidance, and GDPR.
- Influence security-focused decisions throughout the design, implementation, and operations lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Define, evolve and adjust security architecture to meet ** organisational strategy** and evolving threats.
- Embed Secure by Design principles across projects and technology teams.
- Ensure compliance with national and international security frameworks, including ISO 27001, PCI DSS, NCSC guidance, and GDPR.
- Develop and maintain a security architecture and compliance roadmap.
- Provide expert security guidance during solution development, deployment, and operations.
- Perform security risk assessments, recommend proportionate risk mitigation controls, and align with business objectives.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to drive secure decision-making.
- Support security assurance, audits, and compliance activities.
- Contribute to incident response as an architect.
- Continuously track emerging threats, technologies, and best practices across the cyber security landscape.

Essential Qualifications
- Experience designing security architectures for cloud, hybrid, and on-premise environments.
- Deep understanding of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) frameworks including ISO 27001, PCI DSS, NCSC guidance, and Secure by Design.
- Expertise in:
- Networking
- Identity & Access Management (IAM)
- Authentication, Authorisation, and Cryptography
- Ability to evaluate cyber security risks and propose pragmatic, business-aligned security solutions.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills—bringing clarity to both technical and non-technical teams.
- Confident collaborator made possible by strong leadership and influence skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous learning in cyber security best practices.
