On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Cyber Security Consultant (Inside IR35) for a 7 month contract based Hybrid in Abbey Wood, Bristol.

The Ministry of Defence is seeking two experienced Cyber Security Consultants to support security assurance, Secure by Design and accreditation activities across a complex maritime defence programme.

Working within the Mine Hunting Capability (MHC) team, you will support a complex maritime defence programme, ensuring security considerations are embedded throughout the lifecycle of maritime and autonomous systems. The work will focus on Secure by Design activities, Information Assurance, accreditation support and security governance across maritime and autonomous systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for cyber security professionals with experience supporting defence programmes, secure systems and security assurance activities within complex operational environments.

As a Cyber Security Consultant your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support Secure by Design activities across maritime and autonomous defence systems.
  • Contribute to security assurance and accreditation activities for operational military capabilities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of security artefacts including Security Cases, Security Risk Registers and associated assurance documentation.
  • Assist with cyber risk management activities and the identification, assessment and treatment of security risks.
  • Coordinate and support vulnerability assessments, security testing and assurance activities, ensuring findings are appropriately managed through security governance processes.
  • Engage with programme, engineering, operational, security and supplier stakeholders.
  • Provide security input into governance forums, working groups and assurance reviews.
  • Ensure security requirements are appropriately considered throughout project delivery and capability deployment.

Essential:

  • Proven experience supporting Secure by Design activities within complex technology or defence environments.
  • Strong background in Cyber Security, Information Assurance or Security Assurance.
  • Experience supporting security accreditation, assurance or governance activities.
  • Understanding of security risk management processes and security documentation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
  • SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within MOD, Defence Digital, DE&S or wider defence environments.
  • Experience supporting military capability programmes and operational systems.
  • Knowledge of maritime, autonomous or operational technology (OT) systems.
  • Experience of Security Cases, Secure by Design artefacts and security governance processes.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability assessments, penetration testing or cyber risk activities.
